My family and I checked into the Ibis Coimbra on 30 June around 4pm. There was a man with a moustache that checked us in. We believe that when he gave us a stack of passport back, he may have held my passport back and not returned it to us. We visited Coimbra that night and then returned to the hotel to sleep. In the morning of 1 July, I could not find my passport. I asked a very helpful and kind woman that was at the front desk if it had been turned in. She said no and REALLY helped me out by taking down the names of the restaurants we visited the night before and calling them for me. She had EXCEPTIONAL customer service and is to be commended. The clerk that checked us in was not around the front desk when I spoke to the woman employee. I apologize for not getting their names. We checked out and left our luggage at the hotel as we planned to return to see if my passport was found. We visited the university and then retraced our steps to the restaurants that we ate at. Both said the kind female employee from the Ibis had called and asked about my passport and neither restaurant had it. So we went to the PSP and filed a report. We then returned to the Ibis and spoke with the kind female employee and a different employee with a moustache and beard who was also working. They were VERY helpful!! They printed documents we would need to get my new passport. I cannot say enough how much I appreciate all their work and kindness. By the time we were ready to leave the hotel, the clerk that checked us in the night before had arrived. I saw him behind the registration desk. My family left to our rental car in the garage behind the hotel and then I get a call from the kind female employee stating some tourists found my passport in the street out front. I went back and got my passport from the female employee. I would appreciate your company checking the video footage from your cameras to see if I did indeed drop my passport or if the passport was put in the street when the clerk that checked us the previous night came on shift. We walked in and out of the hotel several times over that 24 hour period and would have seen my passport on the ground. Others would have too. The timing of the "finding of my passport" is suspicious to us as is the location where it was found. I would appreciate your help in investigating this issue and would appreciate an email (mi… or phone call +13…) with the results. As a result of this incident, I had trouble with passport control leaving Portugal and now need to get a new passport. If I dropped my passport outside the hotel....I'd like to know. If the employee that checked us in stole it, I'd appreciate knowing that too. Thank you.
