The young men at the reception were very friendly. Room was too small for a family of 4 and AC did not work so was offered a fan just like another reviewer had mentioned. Breakfast was nothing special and the staff seemed unfulfilled and there was a clear lack of management direction in this hotel. Ok for 1 night stopover, but no more. Thank you to the young men who checked us in and out for being super friendly.

Convenient location for a stop overnight but don't expect too much comfort. The room looks like a room from a 2-3 star hotel, clean though. The bed was too soft, not enough plugs in the room, no pressure in the shower, air conditioning limited to -3°, plastered walls like in Ibis or oldish hotels, very simple furniture like in a hospital. Breakfast of average quality for the price and not up to the standards of a usual Novotel. At least, the service is very good and welcoming.

Unfortunately, our stay at the Novotel Bourges was very disappointing, particularly because of how we were treated when we politely asked for a simple ice cream for our autistic son. We had hoped for a welcoming environment, but this incident set a negative tone for the rest of our visit and left us feeling unwelcome. Our son has specific dietary restrictions and cannot eat many foods. He wanted something small while we were eating, so we asked if it was possible to buy an ice cream from the restaurant for him at the time. We were told this was not possible unless we ordered a full meal — which he could not eat — making the response feel inflexible and unhelpful. Eventually, Eduardo did provide the ice cream, but instead of handing it over, he placed it down abruptly in front of my wife without explanation and then ignored us for the rest of our time there. We were not rude or confrontational at any point; we were simply trying to ensure our son had something he could enjoy. The room was also disappointing. It looked nothing like the photos on the website and was not the standard we expected, and did not reflect the advertised images. It felt tired, dated and in need of refurbishment, as though it had not been updated for many years. On a positive note, the food in the restaurant was very good — tasty and enjoyable, which we appreciated. Sadly, the overall experience meant we decided not to stay on our return journey. This cost us almost £200 in extra accommodation and disrupted our travel plans, as we had to book another hotel in the hope of a more welcoming stay. It is particularly disappointing because a little understanding and kindness towards our son would have made a big difference. We were not asking for special treatment — just basic flexibility, patience and courtesy, especially given our son’s needs.

The Bourges Novotel is a long-standing and well-trusted pause for us on our way to and from the South. Yet this time, we were disappointed: while room, communication and hotel staff were perfect as always, the restaurant seems to have lost its charm, in terms of food proposed and cooking (the 'authentic' touch was lost, the finishings were really below level), and even training of staff. Let's hope this is just a phase. The biggest disappointment was the outdoor space: shading has always been an issue, but this is normally largely solved by the combination of arrival times and orientation. Yet not this time, due to which the terrace was hardly usable in the afternoon (full sun only). Most problematic was the amount of smokers and the total absence of smoking policy in the hotel exterior: the terrace is conceived as a combination of a zone for relaxing and play for children, but what to think of a 4-star hotel that makes children play in a zone filled with cigarette smoke? Even if the law allows this (which is, in case like this, very questionnable), in full knowledge of the capacity of the outdoor space, why does the hotel not arrange for a large smoke-free zone around toys and pool? It even was hard for us, adults, to sit there for 15 minutes ... Should non-smokers and kids stay inside if they want a smoke-free place? That cannot be the idea? Yet several families choose to do so in the evening... a real pity, and in urgently in need of change.

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. The room was very comfortable and I had a lovely meal next to the pool in the evening. I chose it because it was close to the motorway and had ev charging (10 euros). I forgot my swimming pool so I couldn't sample the pool but there were lots of children enjoying the chance to cool off after a day travelling.

My wife and I found the stay comfortable. We were in a room for the disabled and was very acceptable. We had our evening meal in the restaurant and it was very good, although the waiter served our sparkling wine at room temperature. I asked for ice which came quickly. Upon leaving our room with the intention of going to have breakfast my wife tripped over a metal strip that was in the doorway and stood about 2 cm above the level of the carpet. She fell to the floor bruising various parts of her body. It has subsequently transpired that she badly broken a bone in her left foot. The piece of metal is clearly a trip hazard and should be removed forthwith.
