I would have given Mercure a higher rating if all their hotels were equal. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The Mercure in Bourges is a delight, whereas the Mercure in Toulouse Sud is very much below average. In Toulouse Sud, the hotel does not have a kitchen. If you want to eat in the hotel itself, all that is available is microwave jars of pre-cooked “ready meals” which are most unappetising. The Mercure in Bourges allows flexi-booking. The Mercure in Toulouse Sud does not. Consequently when I wanted to change my booking by one day, there was nothing further to pay in Bourges, whereas I had to pay “twice” in Toulouse Sud. Why the Mercure group can’t adopt a uniform booking policy, I know not. The moral of this story is be careful: some hotels are good, some not so good.

Disappointing Experience at a Supposed 4-Star Hotel I must be old-fashioned, but I still expect some basic hospitality at a 4-star hotel. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we were more of an inconvenience than guests. No one offered to help with luggage it was very much a "do it yourself" experience. The staff was in the back when we arrived , there was no greeting, no "welcome to our hotel," nothing. Check-in was cold and impersonal. The receptionist said: "Hello, your name is...? You’re staying one night, without breakfast, here’s your key, the lift is behind you." That was it. No information about the hotel, no mention of the spa, restaurant, or breakfast options. I had to ask about the welcome drink myself first, I was told it could be used in the restaurant, then I was told, no, only at the bar. Confusing and not particularly friendly. We booked a Twin Room based on the photos showing a spacious layout with a large window and mentioning a high-floor location. What we actually received was on the first floor, with a tiny window unless you're tall, you can barely see out of it. Definitely not what was advertised. Look more like a Family room with an extra-large sofa bed. Wrong informations need to update website, Eau minérale gratuite , bouteilles d eau ? oui dans le lobby de l eau As a Platinum member, I also expected some recognition or basic amenities. There were none. Overall, a very underwhelming experience that felt more like a 2 star stay than what you'd expect from a 4-star hotel.
