We stayed in Mercure Batavia hotel for 1 night on the 9th of May. The check-in process is rather smooth and uneventful. We stayed in room 753 and noticed a rather strong smell of paint or thinner when we first entered the room. The smell lasted for a while until the AC was working optimally to circulate the air. I'm not certain if the room was recently renovated, but there appear to be drips of paint on the wood paneling just above the bed. The exhaust fan in the bathroom was not working. Whenever we had a hot shower, the steam/vapor would fill the bathroom. Breakfast selection was overall, adequate. We love it that the hotel and Accor Group is going on an environmentally conscious direction by removing plastics where ever they could. The provided water jug and dispenser is a step in the right direction in terms of minimising carbon footprint and rubbish. However, certain basic hygiene items such as sanitary bag should be provided without guests having to ask for it.

At the same time, please accept our sincere apologies for the inconveniences you experienced in Room 753. We regret the unpleasant paint or thinner smell upon entering the room, as well as the visible paint drips on the wood paneling. This is certainly not the standard of room presentation we aim to provide, and your comments have been shared with our Engineering and Housekeeping teams for immediate inspection and corrective action. We also apologize for the bathroom exhaust fan not functioning properly, which caused discomfort after using hot water. This issue has likewise been escalated to our Engineering team to ensure proper maintenance and prevent recurrence. We appreciate your balanced feedback regarding the breakfast selection and are glad to know it was overall adequate for your stay. Most importantly, thank you for recognizing and supporting our sustainability efforts in reducing plastic usage through the water jug and dispenser system. Your positive encouragement means a lot to us. At the same time, we fully understand your point regarding essential hygiene items such as sanitary bags, and we agree that these should remain easily accessible for guest convenience. The refrigerator isn't cooling. The water is not in a plastic bottle. The room is clean.
