I got stuck in the lift at the Novotel hotel, which was an extremely stressful experience. The lift went up to the 5th floor and then the doors would not open, and the ‘door open’ button also did not work. I eventually went back down to the ground floor, where the doors did open, but being stuck was a very scary experience as I did not know what was wrong or how long I would be stuck there. Upon exiting lift, I told them what has happened, and one of the staff members said ‘oh yeah there have been problems with that lift all day.’ So the employees already knew about the broken lift but had done nothing about it and let customers go into it. I hate to think what might have happened if someone had had a panic attack in the lift?!! I had originally booked a stay at Ibis next door, but I was moved to Novotel without my permission. Furthermore, the messaging I received by email was unclear - I paid at the reception when I arrived, but the next day I got sent a new invoice saying I owe the full amount. Awful experience and will not be using Novotel again.

Overall it was good value for money but our stay was somewhat “spoilt” by the terrible smell of the drains in the bathroom
