We were treated very well. The room was nice. The restaurant had reheat meals only and the only meal we would have chosen was not available. If I had a hotel, I would want a restaurant that everyone wanted to dine in, not just guests.

The bed was so firm and uncomfortable, the room had such old thin glass that you hear every vehicle driving past and every conversation from those outside. Pool was shut, room was just not what I would expect for a nice looking hotel. Lovely staff, but i won't be back.

It looked like several sports groups were staying at same time which seemed to dictate the time we were able to enter the dining room for dinner, we'd had a long day sporting ourselves and needed refreshments. Breakfast start time should be earlier than 7:30am for a HOTEL business. Walls in the rooms were thin, could hear neighbour's talking and when they were in the bathroom with the very noisy lighting/fan.

Noticeable hotel refurbishment throughout. Restaurant meal was excellent along with service provided. Only down side, no kettle in room, the kettle provided by reception did not work, waited to secure another, which was taken form an unoccupied room. Had to obtain milk capsules, there were just two in the fridge.

My balcony door did not lock, which made the room cold and made me uncomfortable as a solo female guest. The shared toiletries with items of sanitation like hand soap and shower soap is also quite gross, and guests should have the option to choose their own soap. I travel the world for work regularly and have not experienced having a non-washable pillow on the beds touching the pillows that were intended for facial use and on the part of the bed where I would put my face. The hotel staff were lovely, the location is quiet and convenient, but these choices are not sanitary and I would not choose this hotel for my event again based on that.

The staff at Mercure Tauranga were great throughout my stay, and the hotel is very well located. Unfortunately, the bed completely let the experience down. I booked a room specifically with a king bed, so I was extremely disappointed to find that the “king bed” was actually two separate beds pushed together. I really don’t understand the point of this arrangement. The centre section where the two beds meet is hard and uncomfortable, so you cannot comfortably sleep across the middle of the bed. In reality, I ended up sleeping on one side anyway, which defeats the purpose of booking a king bed in the first place. I was staying at the hotel for business while delivering training nearby, and three of my training students were also staying at Mercure Tauranga because I was staying there. All three of them independently commented on how uncomfortable their beds were as well, so unfortunately my experience did not appear to be an isolated one. For me, the most important aspect of a hotel when travelling for business is being able to get a good night’s sleep. After a full day of work, a comfortable bed is far more important than most other hotel amenities. Unfortunately, the beds at Mercure Tauranga were extremely uncomfortable and I slept poorly during my stay. I expected considerably better from a four-star hotel. It is particularly disappointing because the staff were excellent and I otherwise liked the location, but the quality and comfort of the bed is significant enough that I would not choose to stay at Mercure Tauranga again.

I really liked that you have such a great EV charging facility. For someone with an EV this makes a big difference to me. It means I can drive from Auckland to Tauranga, stay the night, and drive back to Auckland without having to stop anywhere for a fill up! The room was good. The dinner was good. The breakfast was great. The only negative feedback I can think of is that the mushrooms in the breakfast were canned instead of fried that morning. Else everything about the stay was perfect!
