Whilst waiting for my room last friday I had a cardiac event which turns out I had a heart attack. Although there was a sustantial delay 2hrs waiting for checkin the staff kept updating me while I waited in the lobby. I knew I was sick and breathless but didnt realise the severity of my illness until my daughter arrived. She is a cadiac nurse and took me to hospital. The room was lovely and there was a fridge full of complimentary treats which I never got to enjoy. I rang the hotel 2 days later to say please process my payment and sorry I never got to stay. Sean the manager asked how I was that was all he was interested and then said he would process a refund and that the hotel looks forward to welcoming me back when I am well. There are such good people in this work and when you are so very sick this was a ray of sunshine. I am now in Waikato Hospital and it is the 8th day since it begun. I am hoping I can return back to Australia in the next few weeks, once my illness is more managed.

When I think of Novotel I think of quality. Well not any more!!!! I was unfortunately enough to get pillows that smelled like curry!! So it’s very clear that hygiene and clean linen is not top of novotels list. The room was tired and old. The toilet didn’t flush well, and I didn’t shower as I felt cleaner not doing so. In the morning we were woken up by banging, loud banging that started at around 7:30AM. I originally thought it was guests in the room next door, but it went on for over half an hour. I went out to see what was going on and found contractors fixing the carpet. I asked them if they really needed to be doing this at this time and they just said they were contractors and there wasn’t anything they could do. They did apologise and tried to keep the banging down moving forward, but we were already awake so it didn’t matter. When I checked out the lady I first complained to couldn’t help me and I had to wait for the manager which was fine, there was no urgency about her when she was told I was waiting to speak to her and instead did a checkout with another person instead of coming to speak to me. I didn’t matter to her or to Novotel and that was made clear. When I did get to speak to her I told her everything and she told me she had no idea there were contractors in. I didn’t believe her. She would absolutely have known. I was not given any warning that there would be banging, I was not offered a different room when I checked in. All things that I should have been offered or made aware of. Again, Novotel don’t care! Will I stop here again? Absolutely not! Will I tell people how shit it is, absolutely!!

The hotel is great, but the bed was too soft and ended up with a sore back in the morning. Also noted that the shower curtain was about to fall apart from the rings.

I have sent an email to address my disappointment. Feedback includes long wait time for room, poor communication, an unattended bar, and an awkward interaction with staff in lobby giving the impression we shouldn’t be there.

Novotel Rotorua is ideally located, with easy access to all amenities and nearby attractions. The room was comfortable and offered a great view, making the stay even more enjoyable.

Stay was lovely, clean with basic amenties. Will highly recommend the hotel to think about placing water filters at each level in the lift area for self service of water refill. It's a real inconvenience to not have drinkable water. Otherwise, the rooms are great.

Arrived at 2pm, room wasn't ready for check in. Had to wait an hour for it to be ready.

Had a lovely stay, very conveniently located, but had to pay for open car parking that was free on the street. Comfortable and clean rooms although someone dropped a picketer in hallway which wasn’t cleaned up for 2 days.
