We had a nice time at Sofitel. It’s a lovely resort close to the beach and not far away from the main town by car. The Riad was very nice to walk into. The staff are also all very welcoming and friendly. However we felt let down by some of the service throughout our stay which felt like standards were well below what you might expect at a 5 star hotel like Sofitel. It also felt dated in some areas of the hotel like corridors, rooms and the temperamental elevators which didn’t work half the time. In some corridors the carpet had lifted and was a trip hazard. It didn’t feel like there was any general information available about the hotel facilities unless you asked someone. No information book on the room or online via a QR code like there was for the spa. The Zayotoune restaurant evening meal buffet was very expensive for what it was in terms of sufficient vegetarian options. Breakfast there in the morning was pleasant along with the morning staff who were always so friendly and welcoming. The Le Riad lounge was nice to chill in and have a drink or some dessert. I didn’t get a chance to experience other restaurants there. They appeared closed or unmanned. We subsequently spent most meals outside of the hotel. The basic superior room we had was ok. There weren’t enough sockets available or they were inaccessible (eg behind the bed). There wasn’t even a socket for the kettle provided in the room. The tea and coffee was minimal in the room and milk was not provided. We took the milk from the breakfast each day and saved it in the fridge. I appreciate it may not be customary to have milky tea and coffee in Morocco but it’s an international hotel. We had a leak from the shower screen in one room. It took 3 phone calls/ reception visit and 2 days for someone to fix this. Even then it was only partially fixed with still some leakage. One room has a permanent blocked sink so we never used it. The safe in one of our rooms was locked on arrival. It took 4 phone calls/visits to reception and 2 days for someone to come and unlock it for us to use. We requested an adaptor and ironing board/iron from reception but only received after chasing 3-4 times over two days. I appreciated staffing levels may be low or the staff may be busy but these delays felt like a common theme and excessive for a big brand hotel like Sofitel. The spa was good and the staff there great. But they did make a mistake with one of the treatment options. They did rectify the matter but I think we were overcharged for the duplication. I didn’t have time to check at the time as we were leaving. Having said that, some of the staff were excellent. In particular the house keeping staff who cleaned our room daily. Hassan, Omar and Khadija on reception. The concierge staff. The restaurant staff. They always spoke kindly throughout our stay. Well done to them for making our stay better! Overall we had a great time in Agadir but were partly let down by some of the hotel experience. Having stayed at the Sofitel in Marrakech, I expected the same high level experience but I did not get this in Agadir.
