Disappointing Stay at Sofitel Agadir Thalassa Sea & Spa

I have always held the Sofitel brand in high regard, which is why my girlfriend and I chose to book our stay at Sofitel Agadir Thalassa Sea & Spa. Unfortunately, our recent experience fell significantly short of our expectations due to a series of service and accommodation issues. Upon arrival, we were met with a non-functional air conditioning unit in our room. Despite multiple reports and the intervention of technicians who set it to 16 degrees, the room temperature remained uncomfortably high. This issue persisted until we were moved to another room after seven nights, where the air conditioning also failed to cool the room effectively. On our second day, we faced the inconvenience of having no hot water, forcing us to take cold showers. This was not the start we had hoped for. We encountered further issues with basic amenities. On our first evening, there was no ironing board or hair dryer in the room. Although room service brought an ironing board fairly quickly, the hair dryer took over an hour to arrive (when we were ready to go out for the evening and waiting). When we changed rooms, we had to order them again and it happened for a second time. Additionally, the coffee supplies were not replenished regularly, and on one occasion, the cream provided was off – far below the standards expected from a Sofitel hotel. A particularly distressing issue was the nightly mosquito bites we suffered, exacerbated by the need to sleep on top of the duvets due to the high room temperature. One severe reaction caused my girlfriend's eye to swell shut, significantly impacting her comfort and well-being. We had booked and paid for a room with a "Full Ocean View," but were initially given a "Side View of Ocean" room (see the photo). After seven nights and multiple complaints, we were eventually moved to the correct room type, which we should have received from the start. Lastly, our relaxation was disrupted by ongoing refurbishment within the hotel. The constant noise of angle grinders and hammering severely detracted from the tranquil atmosphere we expected. These issues combined to detract significantly from the relaxing and comfortable stay we had anticipated. The culmination of ineffective air conditioning, mosquito bites, lack of hot water, missing amenities, and insufficient room supplies caused daily inconveniences and discomfort. Moreover, being given a room with a side view of the ocean instead of the full ocean view we had paid for made us feel shortchanged. Given these experiences, I would like to share that I have already lodged a complaint with Expedia. Despite their efforts to reach out to Sofitel Agadir Thalassa on my behalf, they reported that the management team was unresponsive. This lack of communication has been disappointing and has further tarnished my impression of the Sofitel brand. Therefore, I am writing this review to seek a resolution and to ensure future guests do not encounter similar issues.

I have the most amazing experience at the Sofitel , From the greeting when I was welcomed to the care by Mohamed for breakfast and the amazing service from Ismail at dinner in the beach front restaurant my experience was over the top! The poolside service was incredible and Bakta (sp) who took care of my room I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Thank you to the entire team for making my stay and first experience with Morocco a beautiful one!

We loved this hotel. The interior design is curated to a very high standard. All of the beach and pool furniture is super comfortable and stunning. The restaurant and beach bar have a great selection of drinks and food. We felt so welcomed by the staff, especially Husain, Ahmed, and Rabab. They went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable throughout our stay. We will definitely be back.

Unfortunately, we were not very satisfied with the service in the hotel. The long waiting time at the reception, restaurant with not good service (dishes were dirty, tables not ready, crepes prepared by touching by hands, too long waiting time, the choice very limited and always the same, the fruits were not fresh etc). The personnel does not speak English so it was difficult for us to communicate. Somebody at the reception was speaking English but not everybody. The taxi we booked with the hotel costed us 60 euro, instead on 20 euros we paid at our way back by booking with a local taxi. Usually 5 stars hotel offer a transfer for free, which here was missing here. The prices at the hotel restaurant were 3 times more expensive than in the local restaurant. The access to the Spa was not free. I can understand Spa services like massage is not for free but the access to the spa should be complimentary. The only positive part were indoor and outdoor facilities which were great but the service is not at the level of 5 star hotel.
