Beautiful hotel near the beach, the grounds were very clean everywhere. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful with the exception of reception staff and a younger man with a hat by the pool area. The reception staff were incompetent and unprofessionally slow. Great service by Moshin: very service-oriented guy!

Friendly staff and a beautiful hotel. Don’t go here if you have a nut allergy as so many dishes even the rice covered in flaked almonds plus on desserts too. Also not many gluten free options. They did gluten free pancakes and crepes but not gluten free pizza or pasta. Gluten free bread was like cake solid. Great location and clean hotel with good facilities.

From the first moment we entered the resort, the overall experience was lacking and the customer service was overall poor. Staff at the reception were not engaged or friendly and did not seem interested in being there. Please be aware that a ‘partial sea view’ room does not mean that you can see the sea from the room- you would need to go the balcony and you can only see the sea if you crane your neck. When we asked to change room due to this, the second room we had, 229, had a strong smell of sewage within the room. At this point, we were too tired to go back to reception and enquire again and just accepted it. When we checked in, the staff member in question was aware it was the birthday of one the guests- he said ‘maybe we’ll do something.’ Obviously nothing was done on the day of the birthday and other guest’s birthdays were remembered. Only the next day, once prompted, was something done. Clearly he’d forgotten but it might’ve been nice to have an apology for this. One of the main issues with the rooms is the ‘French style’ bathroom which meant that the shower and sink were open onto the room. When I asked whether they had anything with a separate bathroom, I was told ‘we’re fully booked’ and ‘maybe try tomorrow’- I was willing to pay extra to upgrade to a suite but nothing was put in place to address this. I was left with a room which smelt of sewage. Not a big deal, but it just doesn’t leave you with a good feeling. The concierge desk was always empty for some reason and unmanned and this made it difficult when trying to book a padel or tennis court. The quality of the clay court was also poor and was not well maintained. Padel was better but there was sand all over the court which made it slippery. Lots of rubbish on the sandy beach as well. The food at le jardin- there could’ve been more variety at dinner. Also for some reason the food at the buffet was always lukewarm or even cold. Positives: heated pool was good. Spanish restaurant had excellent food and nice paella. I felt that Ibrahim the manager was trying his best but he was let down by his staff, who did not provide a positive personal service.

A beautiful resort, however an experience spoilt by a very unpleasant interaction with a member of reception staff. Lack of towels, slow service, ant infestation and leaking air conditioning which is considered hazardous- not the experience we expected at a 5 star resort and not what we’re used to. No regard for food allergies - I was served cheese twice even after specifically asking for it to be left out of my meal.

Having stayed at multiple 5 star hotels around the world, this is by far the worst experience I have ever had. Reception is like a scene out of Faulty Towers - rooms are certainly not luxurious, food is very basic, pools are not heated. Having checked out of the Fairmont Taghazout prior to staying here, the two hotels are not comparable in anyway. The Sofitel is commanding a price tag that does not behold the standard of service, rooms or food quality on offer. I would rate the hotel a basic standard 4 star.
