We’d booked a superior room as it looked lovely in the picture and when we arrived we were asked if we wanted a room at the front or the back. We said we didn’t mind as long as it was quiet. The room was becoming shabby, with wallpaper lifting, but that wasn’t a big issue for us. What was a huge problem, though, was how hot the room became at night. We were told that the air con had been turned off as it was winter. The road below was noisy with frequent ambulance sirens and car horns, so it was a case of window open to cool the room but no sleep due to noise or window closed and being too hot to sleep. After three nights we were exhausted. The shower was lovely but overflowed the tray. When I looked, the plug hole was full of hair. Otherwise, the room was made up nicely each day.

When allocating your room, we wanted to offer you one of our nicer superior rooms on a higher floor — an area where guests usually appreciate the quietness. We regret to hear that you were disturbed by the outside noise. Please don’t hesitate to inform us during your stay in such cases — our team would have gladly offered you another room to make you more comfortable. Regarding the air conditioning, it had been intentionally switched off for the winter season, so there was no technical fault to repair. We understand that room temperature preferences vary, and we’re sorry this caused you discomfort. We’re also sorry about the issue with the shower drain; your comment has been shared with our housekeeping team to ensure this is corrected immediately. It’s unfortunate that your review did not mention the small gesture from our team — the note and chocolates left in your room to celebrate your wedding — as we truly wanted to make your stay special. Finally, on the morning of your departure, our colleague was assisting with breakfast service, which explains why the reception desk was momentarily unattended.
