Unfortunately it was a disappointing stay. The rooms are really small, and too small for any degree of comfort. The facilities are dated, with the leisure facilities out of order. Advised on check in to avoid the pool whilst it was booked out for baby classes which was at premium time from 8am both Sat and Sun. I would have hoped guests would have priority. Breakfast was average, poorly presented and limited variety.

Most of the downstairs area is dingy, we arrived at a busy time and there was only 1 receptionist. The corridors again are dull and dingy. The room(accessible classic)was clean but the basin was cracked and the wall grab rail/ handle was missing. The fire alarm ( which turned out to be a false alarm) went off at about 01:00, at checkout the receptionist was unaware of this. Also we saw no special instructions for wheelchair bound persons. The one high point was the lounge and bar: Although a bit open and airport lounge like, the staff were very good and attentive, the snack menu was tasty and well presented. Special mention must be made about the Manageress; she was not only efficient and professional but pleasant and caring, when my wife, who is in a wheelchair, was waiting for me to load the car and walk our dog, she took the time to talk to my wife and get her a coffee despite it being breakfast time.

Rooms were of a great standard, although the gym changing rooms and public areas (corridors) felt a bit tired and in need of an update. There was no sauna, which was disappointing as it was one of the reasons I chose this hotel. The gym changing rooms felt a little grimy and were too small for the number of people using them, and the gym itself could be better. Dinner service was slow; I waited almost 45 minutes for chicken wings and ended up eating out for most of the week. That said, compliments to the gentleman (Food and Beverage) who was running the bar, waiting tables and running plates with a calm, stress‑free demeanour. Kudos to him for effectively doing the work of three people — it was impressive service that’s increasingly rare.
