Stayed for one night as part of a coach trip to nearby Christmas markets. For a 4* hotel I thought the whole experience was pretty average hence my rating of 3. The room was fine, comfortable bed, but the bathroom looked like a campsite facility. There was no main light in the bedroom just lamps which was not sufficient really. The worst part of our trip was the food. As part of our coach travel we had an evening meal included. The food was basically again, school trip standard. We were made to feel like we were not as important as the guests who were paying for a meal from the restaurants regular menu. We were carted to the back to the room where our food was basically thrown in front of us. Service was non existent. Absolutely terrible. No smiles, no friendly faces, no willingness to help. We had soup to start which many people had bread rolls for - two people from our family didn’t have a bread roll and when they asked for one they were told ‘we have already cooked more and the ones on the other tables are for people who may have not arrived yet’. Sorry but that just isn’t good enough - we paid for our meal and it’s not for us to plan appropriately to make sure every guest gets what they paid for. Dinner was a serve yourself set up, but nobody told us so we were waiting for someone to take our order. A very poor selection of chicken, sausage and some potatoes. If you weren’t first in the queue, you missed out on the fresh food and then had to wait for them to be replenished, which is fine if someone was actually paying attention to when the food needed to be replaced which they were not. The worst part for me was that staff were clearly plates and then instead of taking them into the kitchen to be disposed off, they were scraping food waste into bins right next to our table. This is awful and should not continue. For a 4* hotel I expected better. Whether we are on a coach trip or not, I do not expect below par treatment and basically be sat next to waste bins with staff acting like it’s the worst thing ever to do their jobs. Very very poor and would not recommend this hotel based on the service and standard of food we received. We have fed this back to the coach company and this review was echoed by many other travellers.
