Was a nice stay. The staff were very attentive and when gowns and slippers weren’t in the room as requested they kindly phoned to have them delivered. The standard room was a generous size and had great views onto the winter garden, I wouldn’t bother with upgrading. The room was quite dated, with stains under the vanity table, falling paint, blown hall light and there was excessive mould in the bathroom especially on the shower heads. The bed was extremely uncomfortable leading to two poor nights sleep. Every movement of your partner could be felt and the spring made an awlful squeaking noise. Spa facilities were good I felt. The pool was a nice size although the chlorine was a tad overpowering. The steam & aroma rooms could have been a bit cleaner but it was acceptable. Dinner included in the first night was delicious and staff were attentive, strangely there was no drinks menu and we relied on the memory of our waiter. We opted for inclusive afternoon tea instead of another dinner on the second day. It was satisfactory and filled the gap, nothing outstanding. The breakfast on the first morning was lovely and hot but poorly displayed in steel trays on top of each other, breakfast on the second morning was stone cold but displayed nicely in white crockery, coffee on the second morning was extremely weak. Unless I intend on using the spa facilities I probably wouldn’t stay here again.

Comfortable spacious room and excellent bathroom. The only reason I haven’t given a 10 is that we had to ask for a television remote three times. When the engineer arrived he had been told the set was not working so he then had to go and fetch a remote. The television was working great afterwards.

Excellent from start to finish. Only teeny tiny niggle please can you start bringing tea and coffee to the table at breakfast again as current method a faff! Lovely friendly staff, beautiful room, fab lounge area. Will be back!!

Only 8 min walk from train station, close to shops & restaurants & The Peace Garden. Lovely large room and very clean. All essentials. Large bathroom with both bath & shower. Front of hotel looks over The Peace Garden with fountain. Only lost 1 star because.... Room 310 is at back. Room window doesn't open but cool Aircon was effective. Also the welcome pack is only digital which might confuse techno phobes. Overall, a very comfortable night, slept very well, lovely and quiet. Thank you.

Hi, I was happy to return to your hotel. This was a business visit. I arrived after 2pm. There was no room available and my concern was that I had a business zoom meeting at 3pm. I explained this twice at the reception and at 14.40 I was allocated a room when I said I need a quiet place for my meeting. I didn't mind waiting but this time I really needed a room. My room 504 was perfect apart from that the safe was broken. I reported this immediately but nothing happened. I also reported this when I checked out the next day. Please check that this repair/replacement was been completed. I used your swimming pool. It is very nice. Locker number 29 key did not work. I was then given locker key 27 and the man using it just locked the door and left. So there must be two keys for the same locker. Another security risk. I look forward to my return as my previous visits have been good and everything else works well. Thank you

Dirty bath towels, Dirty furniture in the room. Duvet too small for the bed. Sub standard breakfast with no coffee. Noisy guests until small hours. Feels unsafe, anyone could just walk in and go straight up to room floors in the lift. SO disappointing.

A very unhappy visit. We moved rooms 3 times because of various issues including first being put into a disabled room, second room not ready with no pillows, on lower floor than requested and no mattress protector. Finally accepted a room on the 6th floor which whilst new it had no coffee machine, not enough tea/coffee/milk sachets, no water in fridge, no slippers or robes and was tight on space. Told the reason was a football team had checked in and all rooms were taken. We are regular visitors to the Mercure Sheffield as our son lives nearby. This stay was a special occasion because we were celebrating my retirement so I booked well ahead (on 30th July) and upgraded to a privilege Kings size room to accommodate the importance of the occasion. All of this room moving took over an hour so we didn't have time to shower and relax before going to meet my son. We were very disappointed as we are regular visitors to the Mercure St Pauls and noticed the quality has slipped considerable.

30 minutes queue at check in. No complimentary drinks in mini bar (was supposed to be included), asked for them when checking in then rang reception (took 15 minutes to get an answer) still no drinks 5 hours later, complained at reception got them eventually. Had the most expensive suite but it was shabby, marked walls, chair leg broken, carpet marked, toilet very poor flush. Stayed here many times but not as good as it used to be.

Check in system down and I was left to sit in the reception area for over 1 hr. I felt they should have offered a tea and updates but no. I fail to see why I could not have been given a room and they could have confirmed my check in once they system was back up. I had pre confirmed my booking before arrival.

Arrived for our stay at 13.30hrs. Computer system not working. Receptionist advised us to come back later which we did ,still no computer working so staff unable to allocate us a room .We were then advised to wait in the bar /lounge area.Nobody came to give us any information regarding the situation . By 17.00hrs we were becoming anxious as to when we would be offered a room and that it was looking likely that we would miss the show that commenced at 19.30hrs.(The sole reason we had booked to stay in the hotel) or even have a bed to sleep in overnight We joked between ourselvesthat we would be sleeping in the Peace Gardens across from the hotel or on 2 chairs pushed together in the lounge area.We had to make arrangements to travel home as we were given no guarantee of a bed for the night.We were eventually checked in at 18.48hrs,leaving us barely time to get showered and changed.We complained to the receptionist the following day at checkout and she assured us that our complaint had been logged and that the duty manager would be in contact by phone or email,neither of which has happened.We were offered no recompense,no mention of a room for us to at least freshen up,no offer of any courtesy refreshments,either drinks or snacks. She could not believe how we had been treated. The situation we found ourselves in is totally unacceptable. I feel i must add that we are 2 female pensioners and one of us is disabled.Following this review i am expecting the general manager to get in contact and offer an amount of compensation for the disastrous experience that we suffered in Sheffield at the Mercure Hotel.

We had 2/3 nights with you and 2 rooms. Disappointed that there was no offer of fresh towels toiletries and refreshments throughout our say. Was not offered the introductory biscuits on arrival other people were getting. Very noisy in the corridors at night Food left outside other people's room near ours for long periods of time. Very smelly. Interuppted by the house staff on day of leaving before 12 noon asking if they could get in to clean the room. Witnessed a Spanish member of staff being told off severely by a manager in a suit that she was not working fast enough Both lift out of order at points during the stay Also key card not working half way through and had to be replaced Overall alot of disappointments

This hotel is in a great location, with friendly and helpful staff, a good breakfast and clean bedrooms. However, areas are looking tired and in need of work. I had a light hanging out of the wall in my room, 1 lift was out of order for the duration of my stay, the sauna was out of order and various pieces of gym equipment too. The spa area wasn’t very clean and housekeeping staff would leave piles of dirty laundry and dirty crockery in the bedroom corridors from early afternoon until the following day. Not only did this look unpleasant for the guests on that floor, it could be a health risk or a trip hazard if we needed to evacuate at night.

Electronic hand gell dispensers empty at reception and our floor through out all our stay.. had to move rooms upon arrival, bathroom extraction permanently on and noisy. One lift out of service day 1, both out of service day 2.
