Stayed for 9 nights for the snooker. Been coming for 15 years. Positives - check in was efficient with a really helpful young girl - refurbished room was nice and clean - a lot of the older staff tried hard to please their clients in the face of obvious cost cutting Negatives - room aircon didn't work - one lift out of order the whole time (again, this is an annual occurrence) - the breakfast was very disappointing. Used to have tea and coffee served to tables, now two machines serve powdered milk rubbish and even they were broken most of the time. The buffet was very poor, the cheapest sausages you could imagine and no mushrooms, black pudding or freshly cooked eggs. - no staff on the bar before 11am to even get a decent coffee from there - bar staff unable to cope with busy nights and beers constantly going off. - the lounge area redecoration looks like an A level art project gone wrong This used to be a great hotel where the snooker crowd congregated. It now needs significant investment in terms of staff numbers and infrastructure. This isn't a criticism of a lot of the front line staff who tried hard and worked long hours. But management needs to be more visible and supportive. In the days when Luisa was the General Manager, she'd be out talking to customers and clearing tables herself if she had too. Next year I'll probably try the Radisson.

One of the lifts was out of order, Guinness tap was off and breakfast was average. Rooms were good.

Very average. The building outside and in looks weary. Broken steps, tired decor, gym equipment aged, pool etc missing tiles, showers half-working, some facilities shut

Hotel was perfect for our trip to the Crucible for the snooker. Staff helpful and friendly. Room brilliant - great views of the city. Can't wait to stay again.
