Visibility of clean tables to sit was not good, in some cases tables were vacated but not cleaned. Instruction to not go to the bar or to stand at a safe distance where ignored and not challenged. The requirement were inconsistent. The room was very good as always and the staff on reception helpful and happy. Breakfast was okay but getting milk for tea and coffee became a challenge as staff where not available to provide from the fridge resulting in long waiting time. Difficult situation but had experienced better in another city.

Had 2 nights visiting family. First of all had a problem getting into the hotel as main door locked. Why?? Had to go round the side and wait for someone to see us and let us in. Check in and room were fine. No safety issues. Very disappointed to find the restaurant was closed, there was no indication of this on the website. Room service menu was by QR code on the bedroom mirror but when phoning to order, very little was actually available. The food on the second night was better. Breakfast was delivered to your door consisting of orange juice, porridge, yogurt, croissant and jam. Even the instant porridge had sugar in - so much for a healthy breakfast. Have stayed here several times before but found this rather dispiriting.

Very pleased with experience. Staff were very helpful and I felt the new precautions were at the right level. Room was excellent and facilities in room were of the usual high standard. Did find it a little difficult to work out how to use the TV but that might have been my age.

I needed to travel to Sheffield during lockdown and the Mercure St. Pauls was my first choice to stay. Despite some initial confusion over the booking, having to change rooms as the original was inaccessible and issues with the air conditioning, the staff on duty (mostly Ali) and the Operations Manager were extremely kind and helpful throughout my stay. I look forward to going back when all the services have reopened.

Was good, however the room i was given didn't have a good view as per my request to the receptionist and her confirmation. It was my first visit to Sheffield and really wanted to have a nicer view from my room

We booked 2 rooms for a five night stay for a work engagement. Reception staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. However, on the first night staff in the restaurant were less so, turning us and another guest away because they had not set the tables despite there being only a few guests. We were subsequently asked to return but service was surly and reluctant. A post dinner drink received the same service. Thereafter we ate out except for our last night when we are in the lounge. Service and quality of food were excellent. It turned out that only the Head Chef, the Restaurant Manager snd another Manager were working, the other staff having been laid off due to the Coronavirus crisis. This clearly explained our previous service. I felt that it was important to highlight the service issue because it was in stark contrast to our previous experiences and another customer may have thought that this was normal. That said and acknowledging the excellent service on our last night, we did feel that the standard had dropped generally since our last visit.

Great location close to train station and nice atmosphere with friendly staff on arrival. Beds could do with updating as there was a large dip on one side. I could not seem to switch off the audio subtitles on my TV. Admittedly I did not inform staff as my stay was short and otherwise very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the housekeeping to a high standard.
