We had a lovely stay at St Paul's this weekend. We were there to celebrate my husbands 40th after having to change plans due to covid. We received a free upgrade as it was my husbands birthday and the view we got was stunning. The bed was comfy as usual and we both had a fab nights sleep.

We enjoyed our stay but it did feel like you were under staffed. I know that it is difficult with the current environment but especially with breakfast and having a drink in the bar, there wasn’t enough personnel for your guests

Stayed here for a day every week since hotels re opened. The staff are always helpful and on hand. Rooms are nice and clean and this time I was upgraded to a Junior Suite. lovely and spacious and great view over the city centre.

Don’t bother with the spa package during covid

Total waste of money booking the spa package during this lockdown period. None of the facilities ie steam room etc were open...which is understandable but no refund or discount was offered. You might as well go sit around a public swimming baths. The food included in the deal was cheap and poor quality too. Not much choice and basically consists of different variations of burgers. Not really what you want on a well being break. Luckily the people I was with made the occasion special but if I had gone as a couple I’d of been very disappointed. The bedrooms were clean and well presented.

Following my last visit to the hotel 28/08/20 & leaving an honest review I was offered via email another stay at a 50% reduced rate. I introduced myself to Sandeep (one of the email contacts) at reception, where he checked I had been given a late checkout (just in case my brothers funeral ceremony took longer than we expected) Room (209) was a definite improvement to room (406) on our last stay on the 28/08/20, our sit down breakfast was also a great improvement to the bagged breakfast we experienced during our last stay. But unfortunately yet again our visit was spoiled.... The next morning I got up to prepare to attend my brothers funeral, I was the first to shower and what a performance it was, the drain wouldn’t drain, the whole shower floor just filled up & spilled out & allover the bathroom floor, I did my best to soak it up with towels. We had to dress, go to reception & report it. We had our breakfast whilst the maintenance man attended to it (breakfast was gorgeous). Upon return to our room it had been drained, cleared & a bag of towels left on the floor just inside the main door. So we BOTH then showered & prepared ourselves for the forthcoming event. It was dealt with efficiently, but to be totally honest, it’s something I could have done without, the stress, that & the fact i had to travel to my brothers funeral within a couple of hours sent me over the edge. Upon our return to the hotel whilst changing to leave, the maid entered & caught me in my underpants too (embarrassing)

We stayed here 5 years ago and comparatively it felt that the hotel had lost it's way. If felt very tired. Breakfast was very disappointing Rooms not being serviced was disappointing and not what i would expect We were not told about the covid arrangements, such as lack of servicing. Apparently the info was available via a random QR code stuck to a mirror I never used. The shower was good.

As you have reminded me a second time to review our stay, I am now taking the time to do so, though I suspect you will not be happy to receive it. We visit Sheffield quite often, as both our eldest son and our daughter live there. We have stayed with you several times before, with a positive experience. Last year, we brought my elderly parents along also for a family occasion (we required an accessible room for them as my father uses a wheelchair). We arrived early this time, and asked to leave our cases, and the very pleasant person on reception processed this request and said we had an accessible room booked. I explained that we did not require the accessible room this time, though I had booked an accessible room for my parents on our previous stay. We later arrived to check in and collect our luggage. I asked the (different) person on reception if we needed to book a table in the bar for drinks that evening. She said that we did not have to book, but that she would reserve a table for us at the requested time (8pm) just in case it was busy. We went up to our room (227) and discovered that we had been given an accessible room after all, even though we had confirmed this was not required. Whilst this was not an issue for us, I am always very aware of how difficult it can be to book an accessible room for my parents, and thus, we could be occupying a room that someone else really needed and may have been unable to stay due to a lack of availability of accessible facilities. We decide to have drinks before heading out to dinner and were seated with our son and his partner on the sofas and chairs at the end of the reception desk, adjacent to the restaurant/bar entrance. We saw the bartender and requested to order drinks, at which we were told we could not have drinks served to that table, and we had to wait until there was a space in the bar area. After a few minutes, we were motioned towards a table in the bar area, where we sat for quite a significant time, before orders were taken. Once we had drinks, we were asked on multiple further occasions if we wished to order something else, which we eventually did. During the time that we were enjoying our drinks, the same waiter served drinks to two other groups who were sitting in the very same place where we had been told we could not order drinks. On return from dinner (which we had taken in town due to our understanding that the restaurant was closed), we asked to use the table we had booked for 8pm, and were told by a very surly and unhelpful colleague on reception (male wearing a suit and visor) that we did not have a table booked, and that no colleague would have booked a table in the bar, if it was not for a meal. Therefore either (a) the colleague who told us they would book a table was untruthful; or (b) the colleague on the reception that evening was being untruthful. We were told we could sit on the chairs and sofas opposite reception, but that we could not have drinks served there due to its proximity to reception and Covid regulations. Whilst we were sitting there, our orders were taken, and then we ended up being moved to the sofas and chairs at the end of reception, where our drinks were served – note the issue earlier where drinks could not be served to that table. Whilst we were sitting in that area, where we had further drinks prior to the 10pm curfew (though my son eventually needed to go and ask the bar tender to come and take an order), we saw other guests being served drinks to the table where we had previously been sitting and told we could not have drinks. On our corridor upstairs, it was like a student party, with several rooms of 20-somethings having brought alcohol in from a local shop, in and out of each other’s rooms and playing loud music. We witnessed multiple carrier bags of alcohol being brought onto the premises by a number of groups whilst sitting in the bar. Ultimately, we can see that you have erred on the side of caution with Covid, and limited numbers in the bar area, which is commendable. However, there is a huge amount of space that is unused, and the spacing is well beyond the 2 metre requirement. It seems that you have limited numbers below what they need to be, in order to minimise the number of staff you are having to pay; leading to a poor customer experience. We waited an unreasonable amount of time to place orders for drinks, which is surely not good business sense – we would have ordered at least two or three more cocktails each, had there been an attentive bar service, or the ability to order from your tables using an app etc. Other places are managing this. We stayed at a MacDonald hotel in another city, where our younger son lives, at the very start of hotels re-opening and they got everything spot-on. The worst part of the experience, was the significant lack of congruence in how differing parties of guests were treated. I don’t expect to pay for a service and be spoken to like a naughty child. If the gentleman on your reception that evening was a manager, he should be seeking employment in something other than the hospitality sector. We witnessed him being overtly rude to several guests, whilst fawning over others. This time, it was not the superior guest experience that you claim to be committed to. Respect and customer service were just not your priority. We will be looking elsewhere for future visits.

We had a great one night stay here, the hotel is in a great location next to the Peace Gardens. We felt very safe due to the procedures in place. Having access to the pool facility was great, and the hotel also has good check in and out times. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Checking in beforehand was helpful and made checking in easier. Room was nice and clean. Given the Covid pandemic situation, only one person was allowed to go into the lift at any one time but some guests ignored this. Only one lift was operating when there were two available which is poor and not helpful for customers. Breakfast was really sad, soggy baquette sandwiches and they made no effort to make it nice or wrapped nicely into bags. The bar manager was not the most helpful when I asked for a drink and something to eat in a quiet corner, he just got so bogged down with everything to do with Covid that I really could not understand why I couldn't sit on a table on the corner. Very confusing and not a nice experience at all.
