The room was clean and ready on arrival. Breakfast was very disappointing, rock hard bacon, rubber egg, toaster out of use, having to share teaspoons with other guests, and not 4*

Hotel is in a great location Rooms, bar, dining area are all amazing. Hotel staff were approachavble, friendly and very accomadating. We received excellent customer survey. The only down side was the spa. It was too busy, there was no social distancing or mask wearing. We ended up leaving without using the facilities and sat in the bar instead.

Nice to be able to use the spa facilities, which is always the main reason I go for Mercure hotels. Good variety at breakfast. As an Accor member, I would have liked a choice of rooms but mine was adequate for one night

Felt safe with Covid precautions...All staff,who were very helpful,wore masks. Room large, well appointed and immaculate. Gorgeous view of Peace Gardens Dinner, although dined late, well cooked, hot and tasty. Yorkshire sized portions ! Fabio, our server, excellent.

Room nice and quiet as requested. No decaf pods were available for nespresso machine in room, so tried reception and there were not available. Repeatedly booked dinner in the restaurant but they had no record when we arrived for dinner. The menu was via QR code stickers on the table and no drinks list available. Owing to poor service we only had a drink before leaving to have dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Booked a junior suite and made special request to be on a certain side of the hotel. Room was on the opposite side of the hotel and was in a poor state of disrepair. Cracks in the walls and around the curtain rails, overhang looked like it was about to fall off. Bathroom floor tile was cracked and broken. Room not very clean, hair in shower and room needed a good vacuum. The room was very hot and stuffy. Air control did nothing to relieve this. Website mentioned free mineral water and mini bar - neither were in the room. I found the whole hotel in much need of maintenance and repair, especially in the swimming pool and thermal spa area. Can't say I will be back in a hurry, had better experiences at a Travel Lodge. Very disappointed!

Booked the overnight spa package for my daughters 18th birthday. We appreciate had a fabulous time and the package itself was well worth it. Great restaurant overlooking the winter gardens. Have and will continue to recommend this hotel.

The hotel itself was clean and comfortable but the outstanding merit was the attitude of the staff. Not only were they polite and helpful but there was an atmosphere that led us to believe that they were happy in their work. Not easy to achieve in the hospitality business . Breakfast was well cooked. Is there a covid reason for no shower caps?

Stayed 2 nights as attending a function in City Centre, good location, felt very safe in all areas, we stayed as a family within 3 rooms adjacent to each other. My only issue were the room door-keys, we had to return to the reception on 5 occasions for 2 of the rooms during our 2 days as they would not work and allow us back into our rooms. This was really inconvenient, the staff were always helpful though and replaced them immediately.

Attended as a surprise booking for my partners birthday as the location of the hotel is perfect. We arrived at 1500hrs to use the spa facilities before going out in Sheffield. Upon arrival at the hotel we was given keys to our room on floor 4. As we got to the room the keys did not work. We went back to reception and they changed the keys and again these did not work. We was then told staff would sort it whilst we waited in the room as a maintenance guy allowed us in. The room was dated and old fashioned and the TV was probably older than myself. After around 40 minutes of waiting the room phone rang and we was told we had to move rooms and staff would be up with new keys. We packed up and waited in the hallway another 30 minutes before staff came with keys to another room. The new room was also dated and the view was not as good. It also smelt heavily of smoke and when we asked to swap rooms we was just given a noisy air purifier instead which then kept my partner awake during the night. The spa facilities were really nice and the highlight of the stay. The breakfast was not great. The bacon was undercooked to the point where my partner just had cereal and a coffee. Overall for the money and 4* rating we was disappointed with our stay.

Beautiful hotel in central location with excellent facilities. However it was the worst night sleep ever. It sound as if we had a tumbler dryer above us.

Our recent stay was fine, the room and hotel were clean and staff were friendly. But some of the COVID measures were strange and poorly communicated. They have replaced the welcome booklet with a qr code. That is no issue, but no one told us. So if you don’t spot the qr code and the word welcome, you don’t know where to find all the of the info you need. The most bizarre is the pool. As a hotel guest we had to go to the leisure centre, sign in and collect towels, then go back to our rooms, change for the pool, go down again through the hotel in our costumes and towels, use the pool and go back up…in our towels. We were not allowed to use a locker in the changing room because “the public touch them and you have a room”. So I can be in a really really busy swimming pool right next to someone, I can sit in a steam room with 5 others I don’t know, but I can’t touch a locker that could then be wiped down. Ridiculous rule and it did impact on our enjoyment of the facilities significantly.

The good... Check in staff very helpful. Champagne bar, there isn't one yet your website promotes it. Barman said we only have a type of rosè champagne. Reserved tables in the bar with no-one using them, when I asked if we could sit at one we were told they were for afternoon tea guests therefore nowhere for us to sit. Twenty minutes to get a drink when we were able to get a table yet it wasn't busy. The Italian barman was eventually very nice and helpful. The accessible room 527 was very shabby. The grabrails in the shower were coming away from the walls which is dangerous. The wooden skirting board in the shower room is rotted and filthy. When using the shower the toilet area floods. I know it's a wet room but it shouldn't flood the toilet floor area. There's a horrible stain on the bedroom carpet near the dressing table. Sitting outside at the terrace area was a nice experience and the service was good. Breakfast was an awful experience. It wasn't busy and there was just one person behind the cooking area and another wiping tables. It was 10am and everything looked obliterated, empty baked beans, empty hash browns, empty sausages, lots of dried up scrambled eggs. I asked if I could have 2 poached eggs and was told there were fried eggs, I asked again and the server shrugged her shoulders and walked off. She came back 5 minutes later and said they would be 5 minutes. 5 minutes standing at the food counter and I asked again. She checked and came back and said they would be 5 minutes. No apology or explanation. My husband is in a wheelchair so I get both of our breakfasts. And this was just ridiculous. Eventually the eggs came and I asked for beans, hash browns, bacon etc and had to wait for them to be filled up. Now cold eggs. There was no cutlery, trying to find someone to get some for us took a while and then another 5 mins for her to show up with them. Butter please? More time. The help yourself coffee area was a mess too. We saw 2 people who had their food walk out as they couldn't get cutlery. The breakfast staff looked very unhappy, not a smile or greeting or offer of help, and the service was non existent. I was shocked as it's things like this that make you want to come back to a hotel or NOT. When we left our room to check out the corridor on floor 5 was like an obstacle course with housekeeping trollies, vacuum cleaners, dirty towels etc. We asked if the items could be moved to one side so we could get through with the wheelchair and the housekeeper wasn't happy about having to stop vacuuming. With much manhandling of the trolley and no word she pulled it out of the way. Check out was good. We booked the hotel through Travelzoo. This was our first experience of the Mercure brand. We usually stay at Marriott and have never had this sort of 'couldn't care' attitude.

A very clean well presented hotel with good large bedroom. Sheffield is a complete nightmare for parking /driving and that would probably prevent me returning to the city as opposed to your specific hotel if I came to the city. Breakfast was shambolic ; there were clearly not enough staff on duty to cover cleaning / updating food etc etc Other than the above fine.

Spa beyond package for our 10th wedding anniversary, Hotel and spa was excellent! Hotel was very clean and staff were very helpful. Evening meal and breakfast was 10/10. Would highly recommend.

Good stay but the bar facilities were not up to your usual standard.

Room excellent, check-in excellent, breakfast good selection. Regarding the bar, there is a serious training need for the staff, who didn't see people sitting down and we waited 15 minutes before we had to approach the bar and ask to be served. The staff were very friendly though. We also wanted to sit outside on the terrace but were told that the staff don't go outside to serve often and it could be a very long wait to be served.
