I love staying at the Mercure St Paul's in Sheffield. You always feel like you are a family member and treated as such.

Spa is really good and the hotel well kept. Perfect location for city centre access for shows, etc. Only downside was they suggested a really expensive car park that would have cost around £50 before the hotels 25% discount when there was a car park just as close that cost £15 for 24 hours. Maybe they have some interest in the expensive car park?

Poor. We chose this hotel specifically because it has a pool. There was a major swimming meet at Ponds Forge in Sheffield that weekend and my daughter wanted a pool in the hotel the night before the swimming competition. However, on turning up at 9pm we were told she couldn't use either the pool or the gym as she wasn't quite 16 years old (she is only 15). I went in myself to both pool and gym and there was no one in either. I appreciate that children's time is 3pm to 6pm, but we didn't arrive until 6:30pm. My daughter didn't want to go in to splash about and make a noise, she is a serious competitive swimmer and wanted practice time. Anyway, if no one else was there why did some jobsworth member of staff refuse her entry. I can just see the headline when she is a well known national swimmer in the future "Mercure Hotel refused her use of the pool the night before a major competition". Needless to say at the next Ponds Forge event in April we won't be staying at your hotel again.

Great location and helpful, polite staff

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and it is becoming quite tired. Our bed was also very springy. However, our room had a great view, staff were very helpful and polite and we enjoyed using the gym. Cleaning staff need more keys as we were disturbed on both days with a request to leave our room unlocked.

very helpful staff

Well located, good stay, friendly helpful staff, but cold in the lobby where I ate one night and bed rather uncomfortable - not terrible but would a topper be a good idea?

We were spending the night having come to the theatre in Sheffield from the York area. The hotel is well situated and well connected to main traffic routes while being in a quiet pedestrian only environment. Comfortable spacious rooms and lovely public areas. Unfortunately both dining and lobby areas were unheated (in January) due to problems with the equipment. Drinks after the show and breakfast the next day were taken wearing coats. Very helpful and charming staff.

Was not happy with the state of the room, we came in from London to my grandmothers funeral and was told our reception would be held at this hotel. Upon entering our room it was ok, but after going into the bathroom and seeing the state of the toilet which still had Faeces stain around the bowl, toothpaste was still caked on the face basin tap and brown substance on the wall by the toilet roll holder. We were so tired after our long drive and we had a new born baby with us we just couldn’t be that bothered to do room change. So I was not pleased at all.

Slightly Disapointing - Failed to read notes on booking

Strange mix-up on the hotels' side. Booking was made with a note that twin beds were required for my wife and her friend. A double was allocated. Breakfast booking was lost causing further embarassment. Not the service expected.

Hello Spoonwother, We are grateful for the time taken to leave a review and for your feedback. I do apologise that there was some issues with the allocation of the room. I hope your wife and friend will visit again in the near future. Kind regards, Victoria

Worn-out, saggy, uncomfortable bed, no hot water in shower

This was a birthday trip for my husband. We organized and paid for kennels, overnight childcare, drove for 2 hours. Upon entering the corridor of our room, laundry was piled up all along the hall, it was difficult to pass through the hallway. This remained the case our entire stay, it was never tidied away. We enjoyed the spa, we enjoyed Sheffield, we had a nice dinner with kind, helpful staff in the restaurant. Upon trying to sleep however, the sagging mattress springs from the bed dug into our body. I had to sleep on top of the duvet. In the morning, there was no hot water at all in the shower. Overall a very disappointing and expensive experience.

Clean, well organised, great views

Stayed for my 30th birthday, requested a high floor with a view of the fountains in the peace gardens - and that’s exactly what we got. They also gave me two free drinks for my birthday. However, the bar was freezing cold at about 4:30pm, even with a coat on, so we couldn’t enjoy drinks in the bar, we ended up taking them upstairs. If it was warmer we may have stayed down for more than one. You can use the pool and spa after check out for as long as you want. It is a small pool and busy at the time including dedicated swimmers, people bobbing about and swimming lessons. It may be good to limit the people using the pool at once- especially at the minute. But this did not deter our stay- we loved the hotel! Thank you!

Great location & facilities. All the staff were very professional and friendly.

We booked adjoining rooms which were very clean and spacious, a minor point is that some of the furniture was a bit tired and the wardrobe door was missing in one of the rooms. Gym, pool and spa facilities were excellent. The head chef kindly served breakfast early on both days as there were a number of swimmers staying in the hotel who were competing locally, the breakfast was excellent and a good range of choices. All staff were exceptional. Definitely staying again.

The second time I have stayed at St. Paul’s and both times were brilliant. Rooms are clean spacious and comfortable. Staff were very polite and helpful and the location is ideal. Stayed in both the double and the premier room and would definitely pay more for the premier just for the huge bed!

Nice and quite but central location

Staff was very friendly and attentive we had an issue with our room smelling of cigarette smoke and it got sorted straightaway. I would say that things are starting to look tired and a revamp is needed we had full access to pool, spa and gym. painting works was being carried out in the spa area not ideal for customers passing by. Pool and changing rooms looking very tired. Robes and towels provided could do with replacing. This was my first spa experience and I guess I expected a bit more luxury.

I had to change dates and the Reservations at the hotel were very good in helping with that. Good welcome at reception, and was upgraded due to points. Room was very clean. Difficult to set the safe as it was on the floor - but managed it eventually. Nice to have a safe in the room though.

Had an amazing stay at this hotel! Perfect central location with a nice car park conveniently not even 2 minutes walk from the hotel. The room was bigger than expected with a pleasant view of the Winter Gardens. The bathroom was a real stand out for me! Amazing shower and even a bath for a nice soak after a long day walking! Will definitely return!

3hrs late to check us in… No availability to dine in the restaurant despite calling the day prior and enquiring.. I was told I didn’t have to book I could just turn up… Unable to make cocktails due to limited staff… No cot in the room despite pre booking one… £50 charged to my room without my knowledge, incase I wanted additional extras which I did not.. Staff were unable to advise pool times for children even though they worked in the spa… The occasion was a family wedding and some guests rooms had been given away. Unable to pay in cash as the hotel did not have any change. overall a disappointment.
