Great spa facilities, very clean. Staff really friendly. The afternoon tea was a little disappointing, hardly any filling in the sandwiches (as per pic) and one sandwich was just butter and half a tomato.

The room was freezing cold and couldn’t adjust the heating to warm it up. Then we wanted to go to the pool but found out they didn’t even supply robes (have been to many hotels that just supply robes if hotel has pool) but here you have to have a spa booked in order to get a robe. The pool was also freezing, much colder than general. No one answered the phone at reception when we rang. We also waited twice at reception when there was no one at the desk and no way to tell them that we are there. I feel the down stairs is a lot more modern looking but the rooms and corridors are pretty run down. I would say the bathroom was nice but apart from that poor decor. When we arrived, it was quite late, but we wanted a drink or two. I assured my partner that they always have drinks in the fridge that they just add to your bill when you have anything, but was disappointed to find a fridge that was empty. Which from my experiences was very unusual for a hotel. We were here to begin our honey moon, and we’re sad to have, in our opinion, chosen the wrong hotel to do that.

So sad to see how far this hotel has slipped, we had a poor experience all round. We won’t be back.

We have been coming to Sheffield for 8 years and have stayed at the Mercure several times. Okay his trip was just awful. From check in to check out it was terrible. Check in was chaos as their system was down. Which I realise can happen but the staff arguing between themselves and them with us is not acceptable. There was not a manager in sight to lead the junior staff. The room was dirty and badly maintained. During our entire stay the WiFi did not work. The room was NEVER serviced, even though we know housekeeping staff had been in the room, as our card to operate the power had been removed. We had to go to reception to “collect” towels. Perhaps most concerning is the local drug taking community collect in the outside chairs in the evening, we saw this on two nights. And then the hotel keeps the side door open allowing anyone to come and go to the rooms area without the reception staff seeing them. Mind you there were hardly any reception staff visible. One occasion I was left at an empty reception waiting to be served, when the attendant finally arrived through the door there were three staff sitting in the room next to reception chatting and ignoring guests. I can only assume this place is being sold or closed and refurbished soon. As nobody cares here, and the management is missing in action. You won’t be surprised to hear that we won’t be back.

Disappointing stay. Stayed here before and loved it

The room was very cold when we checked out the Receptionist had her coat on. When we mentioned this she just laughed. She also confirmed there was no internet as it was down. The hotel bar closed at 11 pm. A drink before bed would have been lovely.

Sad decline of a once decent hotel

Menace1 Business - TripAdvisor review

Its hard to convey how disappointed we were with our experience at this once very good hotel. The cavalier approach to arrivals was soon evident as we were given a key to a room that was still occupied- a fact that became evident when we spotted the unmade bed and someone else’s luggage. Eventually we got another room but this was bereft of any information about room service - we called room service only to get no reply and reception did not answer either. We went out for food , returning for a drink at the bar to find this closed early because the young woman serving wanted to get off early!
