I was booked to stay at the Sheffield Novotel. Due to Covid 19 this hotel was closed. I was advised that their sister hotel ( Mecure Sheffield) was still taking bookings. Instead of just transferring my booking direct to the Mecure I had to spend then next 1 hour rearranging my booking. This should have been done automatically. The room was nice and comfortable. There was very little food on offer at the hotel due to covid 19. I had to order food in for diner. I had ordered breakfast from the hotel, it arrived on time but was not what I ordered, it was all prepackaged and not worth the £10 I was charged.

I had reason to stay here in late Oct early Nov, and the experience was very positive. The staff were extremely friendly, the rooms were well presented, the location is 2nd to none. Sheffiled was in Tier 3 during my stay, and this was very evident with lots of sanitizer stations throughout the hotel. The staff could not be more friendly. Breakfast selection was a little disappointing, but with Covod-19, this is a challenge. I will be back...

Disappointed to find Chef was off and only option for room service was a choice of one of four main courses - I did receive complimentary water and Judes ice cream though. I am staying with you again very soon and will have to look for alternative dining arrangements. I read in your guest letter slippers and bathrobes had been discontinued - this is not a covid measure, this is a cost saving exercise with your laundry bill. Staff were thorough and friendly, hotel was clean.

We have been offering a larger menu as this week has gone on, albeit reduced from a pre-covid menu, based on deliveries of good and staff training being completed. You will have a larger selection of food items upon your return visit. I hope you enjoyed the ice cream. In relation to bathrobes and slippers these were removed to provide a COVID safe environment, unlike towels and bed linen, guests have questioned if not used are they replaced between guests. However I would be delighted to provide bathrobes and slippers in your bedroom moving forward. Please do confirm your arrival date and I will ensure this is actioned. Felt very clean and safe. Hotel staff were friendly. The room was ok although little details overlooked for example there was still a sticky label on the bathroom sink and the toilet continuously had water running through it. Breakfast hot choice was poor and full English was very small and not great quality. Certainly not worth the money and we ended up having breakfast elsewhere the second morning. It was great to be able to book a late checkout of 1800hrs.

Staff were friendly but rooms was cold , light flashing at night on the air conditioning so I was told I have to put something over it , then the lights tripped had no lighting all night ? !! Work is in the morning to find the problem still is there , I had to get changed and then move to a different room to have a shower and get ready.

Very well located, excellent staff, lovely downstairs but bedroom and bathroom looked tired. The walls could use some pictures. We had to get an extra heater because the in-room heater just wasn’t working. Very good job with measures in place for coronavirus.

Excellent hotel, extremely efficient and friendly staff. The front desk manned by Ali was professional and courteous and we were very well taken care of. The location was perfect for the main shopping and eating districts of Sheffield city centre as well as some of the beautiful historic sights. we would certainly come back for a stay when visiting the city again. Rather sad because there seemed to be no heating on the ground floor, the restaurant was closed, the bar [no heating] served only 4 hot dishes, [each of which seemed designed for the microwave], and the main lifts did not work [resulting in a meander to the spa where one lift served the whole hotel. I stayed in the Mercure last year and the lifts were not working then either?? It felt like there wee about 2 or 3 members of staff running the whole hotel.

mercure as name was picked during the covid 19 pandemic to have a good hygiene place (receptionist is doing everything literally ...clean luggages- house keeping ...)i mean it everything in such a reputative palce ..i was residing in the executive suite (biggest they have) for 5 nights -only one day of poor clean i got ,zero hygiene ,smelly room .tv broken ,broken safety deposit ,nasty towels,bad breakfatst ..never recommend ..never stay again

The staff were all really helpful and friendly particularly the young lady on duty when we checked in who sorted out a different room for us. Very disppointed when we found out we were expected to make our own bed due to social distancing. However this was also sorted out by Sandeep.

I visited and stayed at the hotel numerous times . The time before last I was disappointed with the breakfast in a bag and tbh the sausage panini / baguette wasn’t satisfactory at all the par baked baguette was literally that and the sausages are cheap over cooked . Basically dry and tasteless. Which bring me on to the last stay ... my last business trip I decided not to pay for breakfast as I felt it was understated and I might as well have gone and bought a Mac Donald’s nevertheless when I asked the receptionist on our arrival are you still serving breakfast in a bag he said no the restaurant was open for breakfast . So I said ok can I pay for both days I added the reason I didn’t book breakfast on booking.com as I found the breakfast quite frankly not up to scratch He became defensive and blamed it on Covid etc I myself have spent working worldwide in all departments of the hotels and spent the latter 7 years of my career working for the Sheraton hotels I would expected the receptionist to ask me why it wasn’t satisfactory first and foremost so we could improve the service and certainly not defensive In my humble opinion it doesn’t matter if I am serving a 3 Rosette dinner or a sausage baguette I would expect my team to deliver the same standard whatever the situation Covid or not When I explained I was a hotelier his mannerisms changed completely and couldn’t do enough..... I personally think whoever I am it should not make a difference . Having said that the room was of high standard. The breakfast waitress was on point and a credit to your team and I will be returning. I just felt it was handled badly and the breakfast we ate in the hotel need some attention personally. For me if you eat breakfast at 7.00 or at 10.00 it still should be as fresh . Most certainly served on a hot plate .
