Everyone was friendly, check in and out was easy. The carpet on the way to the room looked quite old and my room smelled musty. Maybe it was the cleaning solution used...but, I've been in a lot of hotels in Thailand. The gym was small and not modern. The buttons on the side of the bed didn't work well and when I turned off the master switch it turned off the power for charging my laptop and phone as well, so the one morning I woke up late because my phone alarm didn't go off. I realized I needed to charge my phone before turning off the lights to go to sleep. The AC also couldn't be controlled well. There is no temperature setting. I will come back to this hotel in the future only because of its location, and it's part of ALL, but honestly that is the only reason.

The Mövenpick Suriwongse Hotel in Chiang Mai is located right in the middle of a thriving night market. If you're looking for quiet and serene, this hotel is not for you. If, however, you like to be in the thick of things, numerous bars, restaurants, massage places and of course hundreds of stalls lining the streets, once the sun has gone down, then you've come to the right place. Prior to this recent stay (Dec '24), I was last in this hotel in 2019.and I felt then, that it needed a major refurbishment/modernisation.. Sadly, nothing has changed. My room was full of old, dark furniture and was badly lit, these two aspects giving it a rather dingy feel. That said, everything in the room worked and it was clean. Furthermore, every member of staff that I came into contact with, was delightful. The breakfast was adequate, albeit served in an outdated and again dingy, dining room. This is not a bad hotel but you could probably do a lot better. The staff try hard but the simple truth is that the place needs a lot of money thrown at it.

Great location and staff. The rooms need a deep cleaning. They're old, worn and dirty. I've stayed at movenpick hotels in other countries, and this property does not meet their typical standards.

Good hotel to base yourselves in

I stayed at the Movenpick Suriwongse with a small group of friends as part of a golfing trip. Everyone enjoyed staying here. Whilst the hotel is starting to show its age, the rooms we had were large, well-appointed and comfortable with everything in working order. One downside, that cannot be fixed, is the size of the shower stall which is very small. Opening the curtains will allow the room to be lighter but even then they are dark - this is a common fault with many hotels. At night, the lighting is barely adequate to be able to read. The breakfast is good and caters for everyone's tastes and the restaurant was large enough to fit customers in comfortably without being crammed in. The location is very good with a smallish night market and street food on the adjacent streets. The pool area is small and the gym is also very small and under-equipped - the hotel needs to get heavier weights - 6kg barbells does not really cut it! If you are travelling the Chiang Mai, this hotel is perfectly adequate to base yourselves in.
