Weird take on 'budget' - and bring your own fan

pjcm23 TripAdvisor review

We stayed here for two nights to attend an event in Sheffield and in terms of being well-located and fulfilling the requirements of 'somewhere to sleep', it ticked both boxes very well. But the cost, for a so-called budget hotel, is steep to say the least and not much about our room or the hotel seemed to reflect the price we had paid. We arrived late on a Friday night and the check-in experience was unique - no reception desk to speak of, just a member of staff with a laptop on a display unit who didn't really seem all that interested in helping us. There was no information about breakfast or anything, just 'here's your key, there's the lift' - although having seen the price list for breakfast, and the breakfast itself, I don't think we missed out on anything! The room itself was small and basic. It could have been cleaner; the bed being pushed up against the wall necessitated some unplanned acrobatics to get in and out of it, and there wasn't an awful lot of space for two people with a couple of bags each to move around comfortably - but the real killer was the temperature. The hotel advertises air conditioning, which is in the rooms, but there are no instructions on how to use it and even if there were, it doesn't seem to be particularly effective. It was by far the hottest, stuffiest hotel room I've ever stayed in, and I've spent a lot of time in Mediterranean countries in the middle of summer. On top of that the window is sealed so you can't open it to get any fresh air. My wife and I were forced to regularly head down from our room on the top floor to the front door of the hotel just to get some fresh air. I could have said something to reception but their overall approach didn't fill me with confidence that they would be able to do anything to resolve the issue in the time we were there. I've had worse stays in better hotels, I just don't think the prices reflect what you get here, and the heat was really difficult to deal with. So, pass marks for location and having most of the basics for a short stay, but I'd probably look elsewhere if we were staying in Sheffield again.

Great location, clean and tidy.

Very nice, polite, and helpful staff - 2 men. Good location. Walking distance to town. Clean room, although I would have preferred at least a runway carpet as the floor was cold without a carpet. The shower walls could be cleaner. Overall, quite happy with my stay, thank you.

Comfy stay

Decent bed and room for that price! Enjoyed our stay a lot it was really nice. The bed slanted towards the middle slightly so it wasn't ideal but it was OK My nana stayed in the other room and said she was comfortable and slept really well. Thanks for the stay.

Well located, the rooms small but sufficient

Nice hotel friendly staff, I was on the 5th floor and the room was noisy like a fan going on all the time, I checked the fan in my room and it wasn't that I went out in the corridor and it sounded louder I thought it could be somthing on the roof. I was debating going down telling someone but would have had to get dressed , I had a poor nights sleep due to that. stayed the following Sunday night requested a lower floor when booking - no noise good nights sleep.
