Check in was good after delayed 1/3 party booking. Young asian bar attendant in pool area was rude, the room was dirty, lounge had bad stains, fridge smelt, bathroom tile had black mould. Definitely not a 5 star room

Although the location was excellent, the bed was very hard & we had to put spare quilts on top of the mattress to soften it a bit. The apartment while clean is showing it’s age & could do with an update. Lighting in the bathroom was one small light so no good for applying makeup. Unfortunately there are no elevators on the property so lugging 2 heavy suitcases up 3 floors of stairs was not ideal. Was great having undercover Carpark, but not well signposted and a bit difficult to find & being down a narrow single lane you may need to reverse up if a car is exiting or entering the lane at the same time. Staff were very friendly.

Overall: a lovely stay, but with opportunities for improvement. More suitable for families with small children than other traveller types. The vibe: Laid back, tropical and relaxing until the many, many kids arrive . The place is overrun with children (even during school term). I was surprised that the resort doesn't make one of the pools (perhaps the "formal" pool) an adults only zone - it's a missed opportunity that would make the resort more appealing to different traveller types. Location: Excellent. Centrally located in Palm Cove, opposite the beach and within an easy walk of restaurants and shops. Property: Tired looking but with some excellent facilities, like 2 of the 3 pools (the 3rd was deserted but dark and dank. The swim up bar off the lagoon pool is an awesome feature, but the food and drink offering was limited (especially wine). Having said that, the cocktails looked appealing. While we didn't view/make use of them, the property also features a gym and tennis court. Room: We stayed in a one bedroom apartment with ocean views. It was up a few flights of stairs with no lifts available. Our apartment was off a secure alcove shared with another apartment. Either the door or lock was tempermental making access challenging and very loud. Immediately on entry, there are more tiled stairs which one of us learnt the hard way could be hard to see and slippery; and resulted in an injury (and the reason we didn't make use of the gym and tennis court). Otherwise, the apartment was spacious and featured a full kitchen, lounge area, spacious balcony overlooking the beach, study-type area, decent bathroom (no tub) and separate bedroom. Decor was basic but functional. The apartment was generally well appointed, but would benefit for a few extra basics like salt and pepper. Food & Beverage: La Mesa was great. We had lunch there three times and the tacos were delicious! Other than that, there are limited options within the resort. Staff: Overall pleasant, friendly and professional. Our waitress the first two visits to La Mesa was a standout. On the flip side, the pool bar staff left a lot to be desired - generally abrupt and unfriendly. Repeat visit?: Most likely not. While an overall solid day, I'd probably chose a more modern, higher-end property with fewer children.
