We stay here on a fairly regular, annual basis, requesting the superior king room which has an excellent walk-in shower. In the past 5 years, the restaurant has improved enormously, both for dinner and breakfast. Staff at reception and in the restaurant are unfailingly helpful and welcoming. Unfortunately standards of housekeeping are really quite pitiful. For the 3rd year running, we returned to our room, mid afternoon and we hadn’t been serviced - the hotel was relatively quiet that day. It was obvious that carpets are only ever hoovered in the centre and round the beds - dust and rubbish are in corners and under furniture. The room amenities have been cut back to just the minimum - fixed soaps and lotions, no tissues, not even a toilet brush - one of the more obvious requirements for any bathroom. My hand towel was either badly stained or just dirty. There was only one glass. It saddens me to report this because this really has the makings of being an excellent hotel. Again, all the housekeeping staff we saw, were charming and smiling, but it stopped there.
