Stayed overnight prior to a funeral. All fine, though disconcertingly sticky bathroom floor... I'm told this is due to anti slip flooring.

Lovely accommodation, place is quiet, the bed was a little too warm for my liking, it was a heavy tog rating, when i asked if they had a lighter tog rating, they changed that for me, but it was still a higher rating than what i have at home. Than was the only niggle we had. The staff especially Hassan were friendly and welcoming the food was outstanding from the evening meal to the breakfasts, they do not stint on the quality of the food. We very much enjoyed our stay.

I contacted the hotel directly regarding the ABBA tribute night back in August. I contacted the hotel several times both email and phone and was assured everything was in place however when I chased it again in November to ask about the food order I was shocked to learn there was no booking for me. I sent everything over to the hotel who then sorted it out for me. Philip needs to be recognised for this. Lots to improve. Room was nice however I had to fix the toilet seat and the shower body wash did not come out of the dispenser- both should have been checked by housekeeping. The food was OK but the service was awful due to a lack of staff for example the receptionist was drafted in to wait on tables. Our table in the function room was right next to the fire exit and there was a draft coming in. My guests were having to use shawls to keep warm. Then the staff decided that as the food service was so far behind schedule due to the layout of the tables which restricted them getting through, they would open the fire door (I think this could be a breach of fire regulations?) bring the food from the kitchen to the far end of the function room. My guests were freezing and the hot food was only warm by the time it reached us. Our table was not cleared of dirty plates as the entertainment needed to start. We also were not served tea/coffee at the end of the meal despite being included in the price. The ABBA tribute was good.

Ended up staying there unexpectedly when my windscreen wipers suddenly failed on the M40 during torrential rain. The Mercure was a total haven and Hassan on reception was really helpful. My daughter and I were able to get a hot meal and the room was large, clean with incredibly comfortable beds. I was extremely impressed so will look at returning again soon.
