Aaron in the room cannot be adjust, still very cold even though I have turn up the temperature. Breakfast select and quality is very bad, coffee quality is also very bad. Had to wait a long time to get my coffee as the machine is very slow in dispensing the coffee.

My wife and I recently spent two weeks at Mercure Hotel Glenmarie. While our trip to Malaysia as a whole was fantastic, the hotel unfortunately ended up being the low point of our experience. For a 4 star hotel, a certain standard of service is expected, and this property repeatedly failed to meet that standard. Check-in & First Impressions Upon arrival on our first night, we were offered no assistance with our luggage. From the moment we entered the hotel to getting to our room, we carried everything ourselves. This felt especially disappointing because throughout the rest of our stay we saw several other guests receiving help with their bags. Once we went into our room, we immediately noticed a strong, unpleasant smell similar to durian. We contacted reception and a housekeeping staff member came to check. After walking around for a short time, he said he could not smell durian and that what he smelled was our clothes. Considering we had been travelling for nearly 24 hours, we understood we might not have been fresh, but we know our belongings did not have a strong smell. The only solution offered was spraying air freshener around the room and leaving. Shower and Maintenance Issues We also noticed that the shower area had quite a bad smell before either of us used it. This happened every morning. Once one of us showered, the smell disappeared, but it would return again the next day before the first use. Later that first night, after seeing friends, we came back around 4am to shower and sleep. Within minutes, the shower tray began filling up with water because it was not draining properly. I had to turn off the water repeatedly to let it slowly drain before I could finish washing. We went down to reception to report the problem and explained that we had travelled all day and were exhausted. We were told housekeeping only starts at 8am and that no room changes were possible due to occupancy levels. There was no apology. The next morning, we had to report the issue again because the staff on duty had no idea what we were talking about, which suggests nothing had been noted the night before. The drainage improved slightly after they looked at it, but it was still never what you would expect for the entire stay. After the initial experience, we tried to keep interactions with the front desk to a minimum because it usually ended up being more hassle than help. Communication Difficulties There were regular communication and language barriers with the front desk team, which often made simple requests more difficult and added to the frustration. Departure and Final Interactions On our last day, we checked out on time and the hotel stored our bags as our flight was later that evening. When we came back to collect them, it took staff more than 15 minutes to locate our luggage while we waited and watched them searching. Earlier that morning, I had borrowed a weighing scale from reception to weigh my suitcase. Throughout the trip we received mixed answers regarding whether the hotel even had a scale. Some staff said no, others said yes. That morning the staff provided one without any issue. However, when we asked again at checkout to weigh my wife’s suitcase, the staff member on duty said the hotel did not have a scale at all. This was another example of inconsistent information, which was a theme throughout our stay. Overall Despite the hotel being modern and in a good location, the overall service and lack of consistency did not match what you would expect from a 4 star property. These issues had a noticeable impact on what was otherwise an amazing holiday.
