The staff were great and the old mansion was gorgeous. Brownies in the afternoon. Books and games. Fantastic BBQ pack on request. Scones on departure. Would love to see the pool heated or a gym, so we could burn off some calories.

After more than 10 years of staying at Basildene Manor, it has been disappointing to experience what feels like a gradual decline in the overall quality of the stay. It was once somewhere we considered truly exceptional, which is why we have continued to return over so many years. Breakfast, in particular, used to be one of the highlights. Unfortunately, it now feels quite average for the price, with noticeable inconsistencies in both quality and presentation. On one morning, the eggs or hollandaise may not be prepared particularly well, while the next day they are much better. Serving sizes and presentation also seem to vary depending on who is cooking. It gives the impression that there isn’t a consistent standard or clear guide being followed across the kitchen. The removal of pastries is another small change that contributes to breakfast feeling less special than it once did, particularly given the price point. We have also found the beds increasingly uncomfortable, and the mattresses in some rooms feel as though they are due for replacement. The room booking process could also be much clearer. Guests should ideally be able to distinguish between and specifically book the different room types and outlooks for example, a balcony with a garden view versus a car park view, or a courtyard room, rather than having uncertainty about exactly what they are booking. More broadly, the property now feels somewhat understaffed and, at times, a little chaotic. This is particularly noticeable to us because it was never our experience in previous years. Basildene Manor has always been somewhere we loved returning to because of its attention to detail, consistency and sense of being exceptionally well run. We are sharing this feedback because we have been loyal guests for such a long time and would genuinely love to see Basildene Manor return to the exceptional standard that made it such a special place to stay.

We stayed for the long weekend 20th Wedding Anniversary. We were there for our honeymoon and the Staff went all out. We got a welcome card and a chocolate bar from a local seller. Dont forget the 2 hot scones on departure :)
