Friendly staff and welcome was good but once we went to the room the TV didnt work. Moved to another room that was dated and old small tv with only 3 channels and no smart tv. Told hotel was full so was our only option. The club member welcome drinks were added to bill but it was resolved on check-out. Unfortunately not the Mercure experience I am used to.

Although its location has the potential to be very good, the fact is that the remodeling of the boulevard in front of the hotel makes it very hard to navigate and noisy during the day. In addition, the hotel was plagued with constant sirens all night and its thin walls make it difficult to sleep. Further, they lack simple amenities such as bottled water, having provided only one bottle of water the first night and only for one person, no tissue box and no top sheet on the bed.

I booked this hotel before reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, after I read them I asked if I could change to the other hotel closer to the centre but was refused. We tried to make the most of it as it was a special birthday treat for my husband however we were disgusted with the area, beggars, people smoking drugs outside the hotel, food all over the pavements and people sleeping in doorways. Once inside the hotel I spoke to the lady on reception and asked if she could arrange the birthday package to be taken to our room the following day, however it never happened. The room was on the top floor and overlooked the noisy neighbourhood with road work as our view. The police sirens and cars tooting were relentless and went on all day and night. We was reluctant to leave the hotel because of how rough it was outside so ended up staying in the room most of the three nights we was there, on two occasions the cleaner called the phone and said ‘cleaning now’ I said okay give me 10 minutes so we can get ready to go downstairs and she No, you have 1 minute. We've been to many countries and stayed at loads of hotels and have never once been told to leave the room, we paid a lot of money for this trip and I intend to make a complaint about this terrible experience. Along with the fact they let me down on not providing the balloons, prosecco etc as promised - after all I was paying for it. This was our first and last visit to Belgium, the hotel should come with a warning of what to expect outside the door and we wasn't the only ones to say this, we spoke to other people in the hotel who were shocked at how bad the area was and therefore shouldn’t have been charged way over the top for the hotel room. No restaurant means you have a choice. Go outside and risk your life or stay inside and pay extortionate money for a frozen pizza to be reheated. We were over charged for the drinks but only realised after leaving the hotel. We were in such a hurry to leave we didn’t bother going back once we realised.
