Room on allocation was dirty and window guard broken, did report and moved rooms. Staff on arrival in the rain, were hesitant to help with bags, both of us got soaked, un like stated on website. No parking. Disappointing stay

Beautiful old hotel. Very comfortable inside. Well located but still quiet. We had made a booking in the adjoining restaurant for our first night stay, weren't advised at booking that the restaurant was closed and food would be served in the bar. Staff were accommodating and friendly but appeared very thin on the ground. Waited over 20 minion a drink to be served. Also wasn't made aware that rooms were not cleaned daily , only on 3rd night stay. Reception staff kindly brought clean towels and extra toiletries when we were made aware of this. The very small number of staff were helpful and friendly. Room was lovely and generally clean but bed headboard was very dusty. Due to reduced cleaning regime, there were 2 used wine glasses set outside a room on our floor which remained there for the 3 days we were staying. Looked careless. Would definitely stay again, especially when the restaurant opens.

Very comfortable and all care was taken to keep guests Covid safe. Tastefully furnished and the breakfast set us up for the rest of the day. The icing on the cake was the friendly and professional attitude of the staff, superbly led by the general manager, Bradlee. Look forward to our next visit.

This is our second stay within a month at this hotel. The staff are very helpful, and handle the current pandemic situation in a very professional manner versus their hotels. The location is great for all the activities Oxford has to offer and if you park at the Thornhill park and ride the bs drops you outside the hotel.

we have stayed at the hotel previously. This time we stayed in Room 117. The aircon didn't work. There was no Parking. But, the staff on the front desk were superb, they rescued the whole stay with their friendliness and efficiency

his hotel was a complete disgrace. I had trusted Mercure to provide a safe and relaxing venue for my trip, I couldn’t have got it more wrong. I arrived at 18:30, after a five hour drive, to be told that the restaurant closed at 19:00. Not only that, the car park was unavailable due to construction work - so I was forced to use extortionate on street parking in central Oxford. The key card machine was also broken, so the receptionist had to let us into our rooms using a master key, which did not feel safe at all. What if I had a young child with me and couldn’t get back into my room? It’s a safety nightmare! I was awoken at 06:00 by workmen in the car park, not the ideal wake up call. Breakfast was also a complete failure, having booked ahead for collection (collection only breakfast - no fleshly cooked food at a 4 star?!) it was still half an hour late! Appalling!

On arriving at the hotel, we were informed the car park was a construction site so we would have to find alternative arrangements- on street parking at the extortionate rate of £4.70 an hour or a 24 hour car park 10 mins away for £20. This was an additional cost not expected as the hotel was advertised with parking. We then got told the key card system was broken and to be let into our rooms we would have to be accompanied each time by a member of staff with a master key- this did not make either of us feel secure or safe and was highly inconvenient. We were also highly disappointed to be informed that the restaurant closed at 7 on a Sunday as we arrived at 6:30 after a 5 hour drive, and then had to make alternate arrangements for food. The restaurant continued to disappoint as in the welcome letter the choice of breakfast was badly explained and we thought the only choice was to collect and eat elsewhere and upon giving a time for collection the food was still not ready. During these uncertain times we were informed via email that mask wearing around the hotel was mandatory however many guests didn’t do this without question from the staff. The aforementioned car park construction site then became a wake up call as work began at 6 am this was a horrendous racket heard easily through the single-paned windows. The room had also not been thoroughly checked as there was a plastic rapper left from previous visitors on the chair this would normally be an inconvenience however during the current situation it was highly distressing and led to me cleaning the room before feeling safe due to the pandemic. Overall highly disappointed as I believed a brand like Mercure would have been our safest option and the visit ended up being highly anxiety enduring and not worth the £108 I paid for bed and breakfast by a long distance next time I will take my money and safety elsewhere.

Not a bad greeting Initially. A little frustrating being told constantly to “please wait madam” whilst they juggle to check in and out 3 to 4 customers at once. A very kind manager fellow moved his car so we could park. - As we had explained the reason for booking the hotel was for parking and a previous stay as we had a child with a recent operation. - praise to him please, unfortunately though the mattress in room 401 was Old and really uncomfortable and the pillows awful. We both woke up many times trying to get comfy. I had also booked rooms 402 107 and 206 for our party, and all said the pillows we’re awful. I suggest you change then ASAP. And then after a bad nights sleep we end up in a situation at reception where we are told that one of the rooms as been taken for in advance as a deposit. I was never told that on booking. To cut a long story short we were told the night porter took the money on one of our cards, anyhow the manager (who owns a Greek hotel and manages that perfectly well) told us that this always happens and without any authorisation at midnight your system takes payment. I tried to explain that it wasn’t the case and had not happened to my card only room 107 and I was asked to not be aggressive madam. I wasnt aggressive in any nature and offended by her retaliation at being questioned. Unfortunately your manager who told us what a good job she does wouldn’t listen and only spoke. She seems to think if she talks over you and waffles on you will get bored and leave - which we did as the wait to see her had already disturbed our morning. Breakfast however was absolutely wonderful. Has off to the chef ! And the poor waitress that was left to do everything. Bar until late. Breakfasts on her own. - apparently the current staff have to prove to you they are worth of more staff. Not sure how that’s going to work as unless you get it right people won’t come back. ? .. just one more thing. Only Stella or Pale ale and a few bottles of corona and ONE fruit cider on offer. I know In Covid times it’s hard but if you want people in your establishment widen your choice. We had 6 or so rounds in total to support the place. Anyhow - change your pillows. Do not tell customers they are aggressive (I’m an accredited experienced mediator !, I don’t do aggression) Stock the bar. Change the bad beds and I’ll accept paying £320 for a night for me and the kids. You shouldn’t charge top fees and under deliver. Thanks. Lesa.
