I am writing to formally report a series of serious safety and security breaches experienced during my stay at ibis Muscat and to request a full refund as a result of these incidents. From the outset, the room door did not lock properly. On one evening, before sleeping, I ensured the door was locked twice. However, upon waking, the door was found to be secured only once, despite no interaction with it overnight. This immediately raised serious concerns regarding unauthorized access. Additionally, on one occasion, a “Do Not Disturb” sign was placed on the outside of the door before leaving the room. Upon returning, the sign was found inside the room, on the floor. There is no explanation for how this could have occurred without someone entering the room in my absence. The room also had a connecting door to an adjacent room. This connecting door was repeatedly found unlocked every time I returned to the room, despite being secured previously. This occurred multiple times throughout the stay and significantly compromised any sense of privacy or security. Furthermore, personal belongings had been deliberately arranged in a specific way before leaving the room. On returning, items were noticeably rearranged in a completely different manner, again indicating unauthorized entry. The most alarming incident occurred on the final day of the stay. Before leaving the room, a “Do Not Disturb” sign had been clearly placed on the door. Despite this, upon returning, the bathroom strongly smelled of cigarette smoke. It was evident that someone had entered the room and smoked inside during our absence, whether this was a staff member or another individual. This incident, occurring despite the clear instruction not to enter, was deeply disturbing and entirely unacceptable. Taken together, these incidents demonstrate a repeated and unexplained pattern of entry into the room. As a result, I felt extremely unsafe throughout the stay. At no point was there clarity as to who was accessing the room, how they were entering, or why these breaches were occurring. I have stayed at ibis hotels globally, including in London, Doha, and Dubai, as well as at many other hotel brands. I have never experienced anything remotely comparable. This was by far the most unsettling and concerning hotel experience I have ever had. Given the seriousness of these safety failures and the distress caused, I am requesting a full refund for this stay. I also expect this matter to be treated with urgency, as the issues described represent significant lapses in guest safety and security.

Very friendly and helpful receptionist (I arrived at 3.30 in the morning) and he made check in quick and efficient. The room was a good size, quiet and dark. Comfortable bed and good shower. Location is good for cafes, restaurants and shopping. Muscat Grand Mall is only a short walk away plus many other shops nearby. Good choice for breakfast buffet.
