Standards have slipped

Checked in for an overnight family stay prior to a morning flight from Edinburgh airport. Room was shabby with missing light bulbs, broken sockets and fitments. Food in the restaurant was awful. Under cooked chicken and a receptionist who could give a hoot. We were not advised on parking charges nor asked for our vehicle registration details upon check in. Ten days after our stay we received a parking penalty. We have stayed here on numerous occasions but standards have definitely slipped.

I was here for work and enjoyed the pool on the first night, but when I had to extend my stay reception were unhelpful. They were going to charge me £300 to extend it by 2 nights, whereas on booking.com it was £200, and originally I payed £170. I couldn’t justify it so had to move hotels mid-week, which was a huge pain. Also had a problem getting here, the satnav address on their sight leads you to a rear parking area where there’s a barrier you CANNOT pass - no exceptions for hotel guests, it’s a service entrance. This wouldn’t be a big deal except you then have to go 20 minutes out your way to get to the hotel because of all the one-way strangeness in Edinburgh, I had to rejoin the bypass. I told the receptionist at the hotel and asked how to make sure I can get back here directly after work and she gave me the exact same postcode that screwed me over the first time (not her fault obviously but it was the last thing I wanted to have to deal with after a 12 hour shift). This should have been a place of comfort to sleep after work but instead I had to deal with issues constantly.
