I must say I got fooled by the reviews. I am a frequent traveller and have rarely been disappointed to such an extent. As a Platinum member I am usually well received in the Accor hotels. I have booked a single room for two nights and asked if I can get a late check-out on SUN (2/3PM). Upon arrival I have been told that a room upgrade was not given (fair enough, subject to availability) but I was not aware that it meant I get the worst room: facing the back of the neighbouring building, right above the trash bins which were smelly - so forget about the opening the window. The late check-out was not possible either and I have been advised to check again on SUN. On SUN at 12 sharp - and I was about to leave the room - the receptionist called that "I have to come downstairs now" and that any late check-out needs to be double checked on day of departure. I did not appreciate the tone nor the way I was treated AT ALL. All in all: the room was very small, the furniture "OK" - the bathroom functional. Very noisy (very thin walls) and not a Mercure at all - the IBIS hotels nearby (e.g.: ibis Paris Gare du Nord la Fayette) is much better and the hotel does not deserve to be a Mercure brand at all. Positive point: Housekeeping did an excellent job. Well done.

This is one of the 2 hotels in the vicinity of the Gare de l'Est that I always try to book when I come to Paris. I have tried several in the past in the same price range, this is definitely the most comfortable.
