Staff are friendly and rooms are ok. Breakfast and service / food quality in the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Long waits for poor food. Hot water is hit and miss too. Often just warm rather than hot.

I stayed at ibis Rotorua for two nights last week, and unfortunately, the cleanliness was quite disappointing. The bathroom in the first room was not properly cleaned. The shower door was particularly concerning — it looked like it had not been cleaned at all, and there was visible mould growing on the door. The coffee cups and wine glasses were also not clean. The next day, I was moved to another room, which I appreciated. However, the cleanliness of the second room was still only average and did not meet the standard I would expect from a hotel. Overall, the stay was disappointing, especially considering that cleanliness should be a basic standard for a hotel. I hope the housekeeping team can pay more attention to bathroom cleaning and the cleanliness of cups and glassware.

It has its pros and cons. The biggest pro was actually the lady at Novotel. She was I think the Maître d' at the restaurant. After long days training and being away from home she was always a joy. Lovely and super caring lady. A pleasure to be around. And compliments don’t come very often these days so I hope she gets some praise.

Overall a comfortable stay. I appreciated the prompt & smooth check in & check out. The room was alright, just had an issue with the shower. There were long strands of hair on the walls of shower which was not pleasant to see.

Really liked the hotel, location, room/bed and the receptionist staff. Was disappointed however with regards to the breakfast options. When I made the booking via Booking.com I made a special request that I was coeliac and required a gluten free breakfast. Received email confirmation that the hotel could need my needs. When going to breakfast, there was only gluten free weet bix. I asked if there was anything else. I was presented with a bag of refrigerated bread. I thanked the staff then went to toast bread and couldn't because the toaster was covered with gluten bread crumbs. Again asked for the two slices of bread to be grilled or safely toasted so I could have it. By the time it came back (barely toasted and cool) my husband had finished his breakfast. The hotel only had bowls of toppings and a chunk of butter that others had already used. As a coeliac I can't eat things that have had gluten contact. It only takes 20mg for me to be glutenated and I get very sick. I couldn't eat the toast. I inquired about getting a refund for breakfast. (we had booked the inclusive breakfast package) The poor receptionist had to let me know (from her manager) that I could go to the Novotel next door and special request to the kitchen for a non-gluten breakfast. I was not going to get a refund as I had booked via Booking.com. Husband had finished his breakfast by this stage and we had to leave the hotel to get to our next destination. Actually left the hotel upset. It is really hard to have coeliac and this was my first experience at a hotel while knowing I have this autoimmune disease, which made things worse. Lesson learnt. Won't be going back.

Friendly staff and a good location. However, the rooms are very basic, and there were no toiletries in the bathroom. As for breakfast, we enjoyed the good coffee, and the pastries were fine. However, there weren’t many cooked options. The scrambled eggs were very poorly cooked, smelled unpleasant, and lacked seasoning. There were also no other cooked protein options if you don’t eat pork or beans. The herbs and salads in the refrigerated section were not fresh, and there wasn’t much variety to choose from. Overall, the breakfast was not impressive at all for a hotel buffet. Sorry!

Ibis Rotorua hotel is exceptional. Can’t believe it was only a 3-star hotel. Nonetheless, the service was superb and excellent. The team was very accommodating and nice. Free milk, easy access water was a plus ! The room is very clean and had all the amenities I needed. The free parking is also amazing!
