Whilst not a particularly attractive hotel form the outside, the inside has some of the nicest looking rooms I've been in, with much use made of dark woods. The public rooms are good too. The staff were amazing and very helpful - especially given that the future of this hotel is a little uncertain (it may be closing at the end of the year). Shame, a nice hotel with an excellent location. One thing to note: The top floor bar, "Lab 11" is no longer open - which is a shame as it must have afforded great views. We were able to get up to that top floor (but without the bar) and it's a shame we couldn't enjoy a drink there.

Although I am starting with a few negatives, I am very pleased with our stay. The hotel was easy to find but entering the garage in a large car is a nervous experience. Check-in at reception was not smooth, as the rate applied was incorrect with a double charge for breakfast that I had to point out. As a gold member I was given a complimentary upgrade but that had a downside as my welcome gift and filled mini bar were left in the original room. A point to note for other guests, if you stay in your room until midday with the "do not disturb" sign on, the cleaners will not knock and not come back, so you will have an un-serviced room and dirty towels until the following day. On the first night walking back into the hotel at 1am, two men walked through into the lobby looking to see if the bar was open and wandered around totally unchecked by reception. Breakfast each day was excellent, as was the service in the bar. The cleanliness of the hotel was also very good including the room, apart from of course the day the cleaners didn't come in. Other people comment about the dated furniture in the bedrooms and I do have to agree it does look a bit old but is in good condition, so no problems there. Lastly on check-out, after raising the small issues we had, reception without us actually asking for anything corrected the situation very nicely. Next time in Cologne we will probably stay here again.
