A fair stay. Highlights were the excellent staff and good service there. Big disappointments were the facilities available - a broken pool table, shabby table tennis table and not much else. Unhelpful front door staff on occasion. Difficult check out experience - having paid vow website and quoted “all taxes included” was then presented with a daily room tax. Not a huge extra but an unpleasant addition on top of what was a high bill for 2 rooms for 5 nights. This is something that definitely needs address. Many of the staff need some form of reminder of service to guests in a high end hotel if that is the position the hotel is attempting to maintain. Sadly I wouldn’t come back on the basis of this- more of desire to help and serve gives guests a better experience and helps with loyalty. Sadly this was very absent aside of at breakfast so we retuned to similar tables and tipped. It’s the way hospitality goes.

I stayed at Sofitel Marrakesh expecting a high standard given the brand reputation and “4–5 star” positioning, but unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. To start, the room felt outdated, especially for a hotel at this level. The TV is extremely old and has no Chromecast or smart TV apps, and even the room phone was decades old. On top of this, the mini bar snacks were not refilled, and several basic bathroom supplies were not replenished, such as cotton pads and cotton buds—simple essentials that even many 3-star hotels manage consistently. The biggest issue was the noise. My room was located right beside a bar / disco, and the music was loud throughout the day and night. It was especially disruptive between 3:30am and 4:30am, with noise from guests leaving the disco. I asked to change rooms, but no alternative room was offered, which meant I had very poor sleep during my stay. The hotel facilities also fell short. The sauna was not working, and on New Year’s Eve the entrance/exit arrangements were inconvenient and poorly managed. Checkout was another major disappointment. I went to the first reception desk and was told to go to the other reception while carrying all my bags, with no offer of assistance. At the second reception there were 4 or 5 staff members standing there, but no one approached to help with checkout. I eventually placed the key card in the box after receiving only a nod from the staff member. What happened next was unacceptable: I went outside to get a taxi, still carrying all my bags, and as I was getting in, a team member ran out to stop me, because the hotel realized I had a bill to pay. My luggage and personal belongings were already sitting in a taxi with a driver I didn’t know, and I was escorted back into the hotel to settle the bill. This was around 7:20am, with almost no guests in the lobby, so the lack of organization and attention made no sense. Overall, this was not the level of service, comfort, or professionalism expected from Sofitel. I would not consider this a 5-star experience and would not return.
