We visited just for one night. Service was very good. Our room was modern and seemed to have been recently renovated. It was very smart and attractive although our heating did not seem to be quite right as room was very hot and we could not turn it down. Tea lounge was attractive, even if the tea and scones was expensive. Breakfast was excellent - a good selection of cold items. We both also had the full English - both the sausage and black pudding were outstanding. Good coffee too. We will certainly stay there again.

Outstanding service, perfect location, beautiful room. I can't say enough, but what really made my stay was the staff - from the doorman, to reception, concierge, service staff, literally everyone was so friendly and charming. Location is perfect - everything that I was after was in walking distance, and of course the Piccadilly tube station is just up the street. I booked a premium luxury with a view, but it wasn't the view of Waterloo Place that made it special, it was the ceilings in my room that had to be 16 feet high, and the fabulous bathtub. Sadly I only had one night, but it felt like more. Dinner at the Bistro was fantastic, and the rabbit was out of this world - I wish I could have finished it all! Had a hiccup at breakfast the next day with my order, but it was immediately rectified, so no issues there - again, all down to the excellent staff. Would not hesitate to recommend, and cannot wait to return.

We have been using in the Sofitel St James since 2010 as our home away from home in London, staying as a family or alone almost every year, at least once a year until 2019. We were always drawn to the exceptional and dedicated customer service, from the reservations to the concierge to the room service and breakfast offerings. Of course, the location is unbeatable, a beautiful quiet square (Waterloo Place) in a bustling and central part of town, with steps on the left leading to St.James park, and Piccadilly square a few minutes walk on the right. Throughout the years, we stayed in single rooms and large suites, and enjoyed the spacious well equipped rooms down to the Japanese bidet-toilets and Hermes products. I always looked forward to the small Eau d’Orange Verte Hermes perfume bottle that was gifted to me every time we stayed in a suite. I also always enjoyed the high tea service at the beautiful Rose Lounge. I went back with my daughter in October 2024 and found that a lot had changed, to the (much) worse. First, gone are Hermes products, and with them the kind attention of the hotel staff, who seemed uninterested and sometimes even rude. I asked the breakfast host if I could take a look at the breakfast buffet which looked different and re-designed since I’d last been there, she literally looked me up and down before reluctantly agreeing while keeping a close look, as if fearing I was going to steal a piece of bacon (!?). One evening while we were coming back from a play, we found that the street had been blocked by a crane. I asked the concierge, who incidentally had no one else at his desk (not like I was adding to his busy load!), what was going on. He answered that the city was putting up the Christmas lights. When I inquired whether they would be on that week, he rolled his eyes and said that he did not have the city’s schedule. The last night we were there I called the concierge desk to reserve a car to the airport, and was asked whether I wanted a wake up call, to which I agreed. I passed by the concierge desk later that day to re-confirm both the car and the wake up call. The wake-up time came and went the next morning but there was no wake up call. The car was there on time, though, so they got 50% achieved. Pretty much how the whole experience went, at 50% of expectations met. And for me, this visit, their one redeeming service was the still exceptional high tea at the Rose Lounge.

The Sofitel St. James is our favorite London hotel and it's just about perfect--great location for museums, shopping, opera, restaurants, and running in St. James's Park, part of our routine. Lobby and bar are inviting, friendly staff but not obtrustive, and rooms are very nice, cheerful, clean, good shower, wonderful beds, lighting, and amenities. Perfect home when you're in London.
