Room was ideal for the 2 of us. It's perfect for a weekend. Room was clean and tidy. Only downside we had to have our breakfast in the Novotel across the square at the rear of the hotel. The cooked breakfast was unremarkable, probably due to catering for 2 hotels.

Overall we had a good stay. The hotel is in a good central location, clean and comfortable with friendly, helpful, staff. Breakfast was good and, although rooms are not the most modern, it is a good, reasonably priced, base for exploring Manchester

The Ibis with a Novotel Breakfast Commute

I recently stayed at the Ibis Manchester Centre on Portland Street, a hotel I haven't visited in several years. While the interior upon arrival is quite modern and appealing, I found this to be somewhat deceptive, acting as "smoke and mirrors" for the reality of the bedrooms. The rooms are due a facelift. While the space was adequate for a single overnight stay, I would be reluctant to book an extended trip here. The general condition of the corridors was drab, grey and uninviting. A concern was the small bathroom (which strongly resembled a unit you might find on a train). Disturbingly, there was a noticeable whiff of raw sewage that could be detected from within which was unpleasant and unhygienic. Breakfast arrangements are notably awkward. Due to heave rain, I had to run there and back across an open courtyard at the back of the hotel to access the Novotel next door, which hosts the breakfast service. The breakfast itself at the Novotel was adequate, providing standard fare. Cooked food was missing a few items and needed a prompt from another guest to have addressed. There was a distinct lack of customer service with a smile from the staff, making the start of the day less welcoming. Was it good value, no I dont think so.

Have stayed here before. Always a good stay. Staff are friendly and efficient. As three ladies of a certain age we love the fact that the chill bar is closed to the public after 10.30. We were able to enjoy a post theatre drink without the worries of city life.
