We had a four day stay with our daughters at Sofitel Legend the Grand and really loved it. We travel a lot and have learned to appreciate great service, which we definitely received. Our familu suite was sufficient in size and had great views to the canal (and opportunities for kids to spot boats). The butler service was super helpful and our kids were treated to many surprises. During our dinner at the hotel, we also made paper shoes with the kids that we later took to the fire place and the staff arranged st. Nicholaus gifts for the kids every morning. This was really nice and a great gesture. Finally, we also liked the pool and had a great time biking around the city. Looking forward to our next stay!

the spa facilities are not up to the standards of the hotel. We like to enjoy a good spa when we travel, this time it was quite disappointing: the pool was cold, small, slippery floor (fortunately I didn't fall in but I got a good scare), the wet sauna was cold too.

Sofitel Legend hotels always suggest a great experience, but the Grand Amsterdam is always a standout. There are few properties globally where the staff care as genuinely about the experience of their guests, where the property seamlessly blends hundreds of years of history with the latest modern comforts, and where, upon leaving, one is thinking about the next time one will be back. The hotel was very centered in the city and pleasant, however, I had a problem with booking the hotel room and the hotel was not very helpful with fixing the problem.

Das ist die dritte Abfrage (nach Hotels.COM und TripAdvisor) - Ich schicke ihnen gerne den Text den ich dort verwendet habe. The Hotel as such is perfect if you want to explore Amsterdam by foot. You basically arrive, handover your car key for the valet parking and enjoy the city. We got a nice prestige suite with canal view, directly beside the Spa (1st floor). This location seems to be the worse of the entire building, because it is directly above a roll door (gate) where almost all employees are coming in every morning. Windows were closed, curtains closed but even then we could not sleep after 6 anymore. With the room comes a butler service. Don't take it as ist not worth it. You get a introduction to the room and a business card. 2 days later we met him at the elevator and he did not even recognized us or asked how the stay was so far. This goes together with the entire service. The staff appears friendly but you see and feel that its not their passion to serve guests. They are there if you come and ask, but you do not get more than that. For 700€ per night - I expect better service and had this already several times across the world. Just to be clear - I do not have a problem to pay good for good service, but I expect to see it delivered then. Customer experience management is not reactive service. It is predictive and proactive and even if I am a bit biased working and teaching excellent services, I know and value how hard it is and what it takes to achieve that. Breakfast was ok from a food perspective, but suffering from the same service issues. No plates available, ok: i can ask for that. Empty trays with (or better without cheese), well the may refill later and i can take something else. If you ask for butter, you get the hint that this should be on the table ... nine .. because it wasn't. 3 times out of 4! The entire service is also not the most silent one. Sometimes clumsy, always loud and too many people for this lack of responsiveness. It is not the hotels fault that almost no guest is waring a face mask in that restaurant (when serving themselves at the buffet) but it is a bit weird. To finalize this experience we haven't been asked how the stay was at checkout ... well ... can be now read above.

Relaxing and luxurious stay

We stayed at the Sofitel Amsterdam in a Junior Suite wit a connected double room for three nights. While finding the hotel was a bit of a challenge, once we arrived, the service at check-in (concierge, reception, butler) was exceptional. The rooms were spacious, well-equipped and clean. The breakfast and room service food were good. Ordering the food was fine depending on which person you had on the line. Errors were corrected straight away. There were some issues with (phone) connectivity when calling restaurants, butler service, ... We had lunch at the Oriole. The person who welcomed us was amazing and made sure we were well taken care of. The selection of foods was rather limited and the service was horrendous. One of the male waiters obviously had no experience whatsoever. He did not know how to serve champagne, he pulled up his nose while serving us and he disappeared regularly, which meant that we had to serve ourselves. Check-out was once again perfect, the concierge people as well as the reception staff did a most amazing job. Will we be back? Yes! Will we recommend the hotel to our friends? Yes? Will we go back to Oriole? No!!
