We stayed at Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, and overall it was a very nice experience with a few things that surprised me for a true 5-star hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the location is excellent. Most of the main sights, restaurants, shopping areas, and attractions are within walking distance, which made it very convenient for exploring Amsterdam. The staff was also very welcoming and professional from the moment we arrived. Our room was clean, well-kept, and the bed was extremely comfortable. That was definitely one of the highlights of the stay. The downside was the room layout. It felt very tight in certain areas, especially at night when walking to the bathroom. I kept bumping into either the couch or the chair, which made the room feel smaller than expected for a hotel at this level. One thing that surprised me was the in-room amenities. For a 5-star property, I expected basic items like toothbrushes, cotton buds, and a shaving kit to be stocked or replaced automatically. Instead, I had to ask for them daily. It was not a major issue, but at this price point and rating, those details matter. The breakfast buffet was very good. The selection was solid, the food was fresh, and the wait staff was beyond excellent. Orders came out on time, everything was correct, and the service felt polished and attentive. We also visited the bar, and the bartender was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and made the experience enjoyable. The biggest drawback is the surrounding noise. The hotel is in a great central location, but it is also close to nightlife and party areas. At night, I could hear people screaming outside, and there was trash around nearby streets. That is not necessarily the hotel’s fault, but it does affect the overall stay if you are expecting a quiet luxury experience. Pros: Excellent central location Beautiful hotel with a historic luxury feel Clean room Very comfortable bed Welcoming and professional staff Great breakfast buffet Excellent breakfast service Pleasant and knowledgeable bar staff Walking distance to many major Amsterdam attractions Cons: Room layout felt tight Easy to bump into furniture at night Basic amenities had to be requested daily Street noise at night due to nearby nightlife Surrounding area can feel loud and messy late in the evening Overall, I enjoyed the stay and would recommend the hotel for its location, service, breakfast, and comfort. I would just suggest requesting a quieter room and confirming the room size/layout ahead of time. For a 5-star hotel, the service was very good, but some of the small details could be improved to better match the luxury standard.

Very disappointed with this stay. The room initially assigned did not match the hotel’s standard or price, and the overall service lacked empathy and support. As a returning ACCOR member, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and care.
