So when we arrived the room was abysmal. Turns out work being done on the front rooms and they were clad in scaffolding and sheeting. Very odd. Went to reception and Miriam ( brilliant receptionist)sorted the situation out. Next room was super. Small but absolutely fine for a couple of nights. Florence on reception was also fabulous helping us out with our phone. Staff were all great and the hotel is immaculate. Perfect base if you are travelling from the Gare de Lyon. Metro felt safe and clean. We had no issues whatsoever.

Room was great the main issue was in trying to use the shower. Turning it on the way the shower head was positioned managed to start spraying the bathroom. The step up and over the shower was quite high off the ground and getting out of the shower/bath arrangement would be considered very risky for someone with mobility problems. Standing in the shower the floor of the bath was very slippery and felt unsafe and I nearly slipped over a three times whilst trying to wash myself. I am still recovering from a total hip replacement and felt that there were a number of things that could be improved from a health and safety aspect of future guests such as replacing the shower over the bath arrangement with a walk in shower as at other Accor brands with a non slip floor.

For professional reasons, I travel internationally frequently and stay in hotels a lot. The price-performance ratio at the Mercure Gare de Lyon TGV is completely out of balance. The room (which I was told was an upgrade) was old and small, the furniture (jammed cupboard doors, bathroom doors, faulty operation of the air conditioning, which was set far too cold) was absolutely not up to the standard of a 4-star hotel. The breakfast buffet also fell far short of my expectations for €300 per day. I am one experience richer.

Disappointed upon entering room that construction scaffolding obscured the window and the window was closed shut with handle removed which made the room very stuffy indeed. Would also have liked proper crockery and a teaspoon to make a cup of tea.
