Great location, not worth the cost

Great location! Worth the cost? No when you factor in the smallness of the room and the bed was too hard for our liking ( minus one star) . Another star was lost for the coffee, it was like water. The rest of the service was great, holding our bags before or room was available and also allowing an early check-in.

Stayed for a weekend in Edinburgh so location is perfect . Staff were kind and friendly . We only had one major problem . We were staying in room 108 which is right over the dining area kitchen . Both mornings we could clearly hear a swing door opening / closing . Our neighbours in 109 could also hear it . Once heard we couldn't unhear it . It spoilt an otherwise perfect weekend .

My friend and I are in our 60s. We asked for 2 twin beds which we received, in perhaps the smallest room I've ever stayed in. Was only suitable for 1 person. Further, it's an interior room and had a major issue with overheating! It was 6C outside and 25C in our room. We could not sleep! Thermostat clearly broken (looked like is dated back to the 1980s), zero air circulation. There was a cheap fan which we used but all it did was blow hot, stale air. Window, if you can call it that does not open. We were so miserable we cannot recommend this place to anyone. Shame, because I chose this as I have stayed at the ibis at excel in London for business many times and never had a problem. Also, there is an issue with stairs on level 2. Looks like two buildings were joined together to make this property. So half of "LEVEL 2" is about a half a floor up higher (level 2 1/2!) We struggled with our suitcases as the two elevators seem to be dedicated to either level 2 or 2 1/2, so you have to climb stairs. On a positive note, people at the bar seemed to be having a good time and because we were in a dungeon, we were not bothered by noise. I felt unsafe in room 214. God help us if there had been a fire. The room was so cramped our suitcases had to block the door so we could move between the beds and the bathroom. I am bitter about my experience here but really appreciated the location and enjoyed the Christmas market.

Room was satisfactory but the general state of the hotel is to be described as tired and less welcoming that I would have wished for.
