I am writing to formally lodge a serious complaint regarding my stay at the Mercure Hurghada on 1 May, 2026. As an architect who has collaborated on various Accor hotel projects globally, I am intimately familiar with the brand’s standards and guidelines. What I experienced at this property was not only a failure of service but a staggering breach of guest safety and professional ethics. The stay was compromised from the outset: Check In: Despite a confirmed booking, I was forced to pay an additional fee at check-in due to a "system error," which felt like a bait-and-switch tactic to accommodate two guests. On the website the fee was clearly 10 AED additional, but they asked me to pay 50USD, negotiated down to 25USD to accommodate the second guest for a double bed room. Room Readiness & Hygiene: I was checked into a room with dusty floors, no internet, a broken telephone, and zero essential amenities (no towels, tissues, or toiletries). Operational Negligence: Due to the broken room phone, I was forced to make international calls from my personal mobile to reach the front desk. My requests were ignored multiple times, and when towels finally arrived, they were inadequate and provided for only one person, despite paying an extra charge for the second guest. Not to mention that standard the room's OS&E would include face towels, shower towels and standard med-sized towels. The hotel seemed to only offer one-size-fits-all towel. Most critically, I must report a severe security and privacy violation. Past midnight, a front desk representative arrived at my door unannounced with two additional staff members from the kitchen and room service. They proceeded to enter my room to "evaluate" the situation and engage in a heated argument regarding the missing amenities. Having three male staff members confront a guest in their room after midnight is threatening, unprofessional, and a complete violation of Accor’s safety protocols. The representative proceeded to investigate the room convinced that everything was there only to realize it was not. For a rate of $110 USD, the experience was a total operational failure. More importantly, the conduct of the night staff was unacceptable. As a professional who respects the Accor brand, I expect a formal investigation into these events. I am requesting a full refund, as well as compensation for the significant distress and inconvenience caused by this stay. To my understanding the GM of the hotel is Wael Allam, who seems to operate a rundown facility with very little care for details or guest experience, that does not reflect the brand standards of Accor to my experience. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our stay at the Mercure Hurghada was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with a level of warmth and professional service that truly sets this resort apart. The Welcome Experience After a long journey, the arrival process was a breath of fresh air. We were greeted immediately with a refreshing cold drink, and to our delight, found a beautiful fruit plate waiting in our room. It was such a thoughtful surprise that allowed us to settle in and get a good night's rest for the vacation ahead, rather than having to immediately head back out to find dinner. Outstanding Service & Staff The staff are the heartbeat of this resort. Every team member we encountered had a genuine smile on their face, making us feel truly valued and welcome. We were even given an unexpected room upgrade without even asking, which made our stay even more comfortable. • Special Mention: A huge thank you to Hisham at the reception desk. His professionalism and hospitality made a fantastic first impression and set the tone for our entire trip. Facilities & Dining • Dining: The food throughout our stay was consistently great with excellent variety. • Atmosphere: The facilities are top-notch and impeccably maintained. • Vibe: The overall environment is incredibly welcoming; the staff really go above and beyond to make you feel like a VIP guest. Verdict: I highly recommend the Mercure Hurghada to anyone looking for a five-star experience in Egypt. We left feeling refreshed and greatly appreciated. Thank you to the entire team for a memorable vacation!
