Deborah B TripAdvisor review

A good little hotel for the price. Very clean, newly remodeled and very low nap carpet that seemed cleaner than most, still wore my flip flops though. Air conditioning, wall controlled, worked very well and had it been cooler, the windows opened. Hallways were very narrow but well lit (motion controlled) and the elevator was new and worked perfectly. 15 min by Metro to downtown Paris, Metro station a block away. Commonly small European room. Small grocery and several bakeries and restaurants close by plus a full mall with regular people clothing prices and a Sephora and Claire’s. Don’t know if I’d stay here again, I feel I could do better. Downsides are that on Friday night (thankfully not repeated on Saturday night) there was a bar close by that played loud music from 10 pm - 2 am. It had a very rap like base beat that you could feel through the floors and walls so earplugs didn’t help much. The hotel did have double paned widows which kept out all other noise and did help some with this. I’m sure the hotel and surrounding residents aren’t very happy with this either. Second, the shower was a wet mess. There was a traditional European hand held shower that worked well, hot, good pressure shower. Unfortunately, it also soaked the entire floor of the bathroom when you showered. Then there was a rain head shower from above that simulated an American shower but left standing water on the bathroom floor. There was a partial glass shower wall to contain the water but obviously couldn’t. With the bath being so small I don’t see how they could block the water, a shower curtain maybe? Anyway, housekeeping was very nice, no problem giving us any towels etc. we needed. The shower floor was also very slippery so we placed a small hand towel on the floor to grip our feet. Then each day we got a new hand towel, new bath mat and new big towel for mopping the floor. Lastly, I don’t expect Europeans in general to speak completely fluent English since I speak only one language myself. But I was surprised that some of the hotel staff didn’t speak it better. There was a lot of head nodding with no real confirmation that they understood. We communicated fairly well with The gentleman who worked the day shift, he held onto our luggage coming and going. This is a small hotel with maybe 20-25 rooms and he held our luggage in an alcove behind him rather than a large room a larger hotel might have. But we kept our passports, money and valuables with us and felt confident in leaving out luggage with him. One later night employee would not even speak to us saying we needed “to ask someone else” while gesturing out the door? But another 2 ladies were very helpful when we asked about a nearby laundromat (I mean to do our laundry ourselves). One wasn’t sure she understood so talked to her coworker, we did some gesturing and they pointed us in the right direction just down the street. They obviously wanted to help us. The cost to launder 1 shirt through the hotel was 10 euros! We were on a 23 day, multi city vacation and just needed to do laundry. So overall I was satisfied but as I said, felt I could do better.
