We stayed Sunday-Friday. I picked the Novotel Montreal Centre based on location and rating. Lobby, restaurant, and room felt like a 2 rather than 4 star hotel. On arrival we had only one bath robe in the room, and no slippers. We called the front desk and asked if they could bring us 2 pairs. An hour later, we called again to check if someone was coming because we had to leave for dinner. The sarcastic answer was that they'll arrive "sometime." We never got them... guess it was weekend staff style? They forgot to make our room one day (million reasons why; no apologies), and regularly forgot to replace toilet paper and water bottles too. The room was big but unpractical. There was a constant, pulsating noise either from the HVAC or the elevator shaft. You don't hear the neighbors next door, but Boy, you can hear whoever is dropping something or rolling a suitcase/vacuum cleaner above your head! Room (and hotel) was rather banged up, with suspicious stains on the carpet. A large drawer did not close, so we had to fold a sheet of paper to block it. Not enough storage, crude lights. One large couch by the window (view on an abandoned building and, per morning loud noises, dumpster). You cannot watch TV from that angle. There was a big empty space between the couch and the bed. Scratches on ceiling and wall indicate that there used to be furniture there. The bed was very firm but somewhat supportive, a feature missing in the exhausted pillows. Bedsheets were weirdly too short, so I ended up sleeping partially on the mattress (?!). Comforter was way too warm for summer days. Big TV OK, but limited programs. The inane bathroom design is from another era: why no privacy, no door for the shower? Btw, the shower head/handle did not work well. Pumps for the shampoo and soap did not work. Nowhere to dry towels? The restaurant suffered from the same vices: tired furniture, very crude lights, forgetful/rushed staff, mediocre food, juices, and coffee. Front desk staff was of variable friendliness. Easy to get ignored, hard to get a smile. One (ONE!) was welcoming and relax, so normal interactions with guests are possible. Garage on site (self-service) is convenient. Better bring a small car because it is all corners and columns. Doors/gates did not work. Overall, it was a disappointment and I would not consider this hotel (or brand) again in the future.

I've stayed to attend the conference for 7nights. Novotel was good location(near downtown) and safe(even at late night). Every thing was so satifed but, just one downside was there was no complimentary water. So, I had to buy every night after finish work. I wish there is a vending machine in the lobby where I could buy water as normal price. If I have any chance to visit Montreal, i hope to visit Novotel again.

The room was comfortable and a good size, with a very comfortable bed. The highlight was definitely the modern, well-equipped bathroom. As in many hotels, the carpet is probably the weakest point. Unfortunately, the view from our room was not particularly appealing, overlooking a neglected secondary street.

Pros Service: Helpful and responsive staff who quickly transferred us to a better room. Location: Great, highly walkable area. Upgrade: Promptly moved to an improved room after reporting an issue. Cons Cleanliness: The initial room was not clean and had a smoke odor. Bedding: The mattress was merely okay, and the pillows were old, lumpy, and very uncomfortable. Summary An average stay hindered by cleanliness issues and poor-quality bedding, though salvaged somewhat by a great location and accommodating service.
