The area around the hotel is really degraded and unsafe (not ideal with small kids). The "family" room was really small (ok for a short stay). No particular upgrade with the Gold profile. I booked my room in advance expecting to get a better price, to discover that on the day of our arrival the price was almost half... The opening time of the swimming pool is ridiculous (10:00 to 17:00) we had to choose between visiting the city and the pool (we chose the city).

The staff were friendly and helpful and my suite was nice. Unfortunately the neighborhood is shabby. Lots of trash and shuttered businesses with graffiti. The breakfast was not good. Very little actual cooking and too much reheating of prepared foods

We arrived as late as possible from cruise ship so we could go access our room that was pre- booked 11 am check in. We expected that we would have to wait for a little time, but were told that we would have to wait until later in the day. That was not satisfactory, and after stating that we had booked that hotel for the early check in, we were given a room at 11 am. Apart from that instance, the rest of our stay was adequate. The room was clean, although for a four star hotel, the carpet was past its best and the paint work was grubby looking. The pillows smelt faintly of cigarette smoke and were lumpy. If the sheer curtains were meant to be beige, that's ok. If they were meant to be white - they aren't any longer. The shuttle bus to the centre of Athens is a great service.

The rooms seemed very worn and had signs of moisture damage all over. The walls might as well not have been there at all since I could hear both the noise from inside and outside of the hotel. The shuttle bus was useless and the pool also only seemed like it was there to actually go to a 4 star hotel. The opening hours makes it useless and even when we were able to make it to the pool it was closed the first day since it rained? And the second day it was open even though it rained so it made no sense at all the woman who was supposedly a lifeguard seemed like she didn’t want to deal with people using the pool so she closed it the first day and then maybe was told to open it the second day but still no sense at all. The balcony made a horrible hauling sound due to the wind and after the rain water came into the room. Just in general seemed like a rush job. The area was horrible. I literally saw someone smoking meth or something on the way to the hotel from the station so it was also a hard first impression. They say they have a restaurant. Personally, I never saw it open. We had to order food from outside of the hotel which I feel shouldn’t be an issue for a 4 star hotel. There was left a welcome snack on the first day which was nice, the only problem was it had melted all over the table so it was all sticky so that was also a nice issue to have to deal with on arrival. We just had a horrible time, not sure if it was just unlucky but it sure did suck.

stayed at Novotel Athenes on two separate occasions, October 5–7 and October 12–13, 2026, and unfortunately, both experiences raised serious concerns about the hotel’s cleanliness, hygiene standards, and responsiveness to guest feedback. Unacceptable Room Cleanliness – Even After Raising Concerns During my first stay (October 5–7), I found the room to be exceptionally unclean and well below the standard I would expect from a four-star hotel operating under the Accor brand. I brought these concerns directly to the hotel’s check-in team and specifically requested that, for my return visit on October 12, I be assigned a properly cleaned room. I was not asking for an upgrade, special treatment, or additional amenities. I simply wanted a clean room. Disappointingly, the room provided during my second stay was in even worse condition than the first. This was particularly frustrating because management and staff had been given advance notice of the issue and an opportunity to address it. Yet, the basic standards of cleanliness were still not met. Concerning Restaurant Hygiene Practices Unfortunately, the problems extended beyond the guest rooms. During my visits to the hotel’s restaurant, I observed several concerning hygiene issues: * Dirty cutlery on dining tables: Cutlery that was visibly unclean had been placed on tables for guest use. I have photographs documenting this. * Questionable beverage equipment handling: I witnessed a staff member replacing the water bottles connected to the juice dispensing machines. During this process, the attachments used by the machines to draw water from the bottles were left hanging down and were physically touching the floor. The latter observation is particularly troubling from a food hygiene perspective. Components involved in dispensing beverages should be handled in a sanitary manner, and contact with the floor presents an avoidable contamination risk. These are not minor cosmetic issues. They concern fundamental standards of cleanliness and sanitation that should be non-negotiable in any hospitality establishment, particularly one associated with an internationally recognized hotel group. Failure to Address Previously Reported Issues What makes this situation especially disappointing is that I proactively raised my concerns following the first stay. The hotel had a clear opportunity to improve the experience during my return visit. Instead, the room conditions were worse, leaving me questioning the adequacy of the property’s housekeeping oversight and quality control. I generally expect a predictable standard of cleanliness and professionalism when choosing a hotel under a globally established brand such as Accor. Unfortunately, my experience at Novotel Athenes fell significantly short of those expectations. Clean rooms, sanitary dining equipment, and proper hygiene practices are basic requirements—not premium services or special requests. Based on these two stays, I cannot recommend this property without substantial improvements to its housekeeping, restaurant sanitation, and response to guest feedback.

The rate is fair. The location is not in the centre of the town but close enough. The subway and bus stations are closeby, only 5 stops to city centre. The size of the hotel room is decent, the bathroom is clean.

Mattress was foam, pillows lumpy, location is in really bad area. Pool was absolutely freezing.

Breakfast was not good, shower water was not hot, bedroom was old

We were on our way to Piraeus for a first-time cruise but flights from Bristol made our 3-night stay necessary and gave us an opportunity to visit the famous capital city of Greece.

Very disappointed with my stay. The room was extremely noisy, and both the bed and the sheets were of very poor quality, making it difficult to rest properly. On top of that, the water was not replenished for the second night. I used to stay at this hotel regularly for business trips, but unfortunately, it seems that guest loyalty is no longer valued. A very disappointing experience overall. I will not be returning.

Room but average, short in tea bags, pillows crap, bit tricky that one window open and air conditioning won’t run, notice advising same?? On controller!

The hotel is showing its age and not up to the normal standards of Novotel brand. Rooftop bar and pool are lovely. Location is not good and if we were staying longer we would have been disappointed. Shuttle service is good but should operate more regularly

Experience not great.

The entire stay was poor, from start to finish. Arrived around 12.30, and room was not available - which is fine as check-in not until 3pm. Had a few drinks in the roof top restaurant whilst waiting, but room not finally ready until 5pm, despite continually checking. Then the balcony view we booked was awful, and not representative of the view described in the All Accor app. After speaking with the manager, our room was changed, but still not what I booked. Room was fusty and the balcony door difficult to open, which was just a well, as the view was non-existent. Never a four-star hotel... more like three.

We stayed two nights at the hotel during the month of October, and it was the worst stay of our lives. The air conditioning in the room simply did not cool; it only blew hot air, leaving the room unbearably stuffy. Even with the unit turned off, the room remained extremely hot. We complained at the front desk several times. Initially, they said they would fix it, but later they admitted the truth: because it is a central AC system, from October to March it only operates in heating mode. In other words, guests have no way to control the temperature of their own room and are forced to endure the heat. The only "solution" they offered was a fan and the suggestion to open the window, which made sleep impossible due to the intense street noise and the wind rustling the curtains. It led to two terrible nights of sleep. To top it off, the entire hotel is extremely old, including the furniture and fixtures in the room. Breakfast is just "okay," nothing beyond the bare minimum for a self-proclaimed four-star hotel. We do not recommend it at all.

The air conditioning was turned off for the season but the rooms were excessively hot which made sleep difficult. My son has a seizure disorder and one of the triggers of his seizures is a lack of sleep. The “best’ solution your staff could come up with was a small fan that was not nearly adequate enough. Also - the lack of electrical outlets near the bed made hooking up both of our CPAP machines a challenge. Breakfast was also not a good experience. My son has food allergies and since the only milk choices were soy milk and cows milk (both highly allergic alternatives) his food choices were extremely limited. The eggs were not fresh. The fried eggs were dried out and the scrambled eggs were very watery. The coffee machine was in need of servicing and the staff never told me there was another coffee machine on the other side of the restaurant.
