We have used Novotels over the last ten years and have noticed a steady deterioration of the state of the buildings, and an increasing number of coach parties. We stopped using the Novotel in Dijon because after a restyle, whilst the rooms were comfortable the decor was so unpleasant as to be disturbing and the public areas were uncomfortable, and bizarrely decorated with offcuts of chipboard. The comments about the restaurant below also applied to Novotel in Dijon. With regards to Novotel Mulhouse, again the bedroom was comfortable, but the complimentary drinks were drastically reduced amounting to four tea bags, whereas before there was a choice of teas and coffee. The restaurant for supper was unsatisfactory we had booked half board which in the past gave a sum which could be used to choose from the main menu, with us paying any excess. On this occasion we were presented with a very limited menu with three starters, three main courses and three desserts (although on the first night there were only two starters available). All of the choices were very basic, and appeared to have been pre-prepared and inadequately warmed up. Even the main course salad (with hard boiled eggs) consisted mainly of potato covered in mayonnaise and very little salad leaves. The waiting staff seemed clueless, and it was not a matter of translation, as the fixed menu was in both English and French, so I was able to point to our choices in French, however the waitress seemed not to have taken note, as I had to remind her that I had ordered a dessert. The bottle of white wine we ordered was not chilled and when we asked for a cooler none appeared. The breakfast was reduced in choice, with no cold meats, cheeses etc, and the hot food (sausages, bacon and scrambled egg) were tepid and dried out. Thankfully the hot drinks machine was as good as ever and the pastries were good We will probably use the hotel again, because it is on our normal route and is nearby a large hypermarket, but will definitely not eat anything apart from breakfast in the hotel . Again it is disappointing to have seen the previous standard of Novotels has deteriorated so much.

Although some lacks, the staff made it up and cheered everything up by being naturally friendly and at disposal to us. Dog friendly environment with staff liking our mastering dog over the hotel, he just felt like home and greeting the staff with short friendly barks
