The staff were very pleasant, and helpful. The location was good, only 10 minutes drive from the centre of York. The condition is the room and the hotel was quite poor. In our bathroom the taps were loose, the bath was damaged, signs of water damage on the ceiling in our room, the wallpaper in the hallway were peeling.

It was a bit of a mix bag. My kettle didn't work properly - raised it in the morning with reception who were going to raise it with housekeeping. When I got back in the evening nothing had been sorted. Raised it with reception and the receptionist herself bought a new kettle to my room, as promised, within 10minutes. Also my phone didn't work. Each time with breakfast the sausages were placed at the back and were stuck to the tray so I needed to get assistance - on the last day there was only one staff member to about 12 guests so it involved waiting.

However, we’re sorry that your stay felt like a “mixed bag” and that some issues were not resolved as quickly as they should have been. The delay in addressing the kettle earlier in the day and the issue with the phone not working are certainly not the standard we aim to provide at Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel. We’ll be following up with our housekeeping and maintenance teams to improve communication and ensure reported issues are acted on more efficiently. We also appreciate your feedback regarding breakfast service. We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused by the placement of items and the wait for assistance, particularly when the team was stretched. Nice spot, spacious rooms, comfortable bed, good breakfast but hotel rooms need some TLC, plumbing in both rooms odd, spa bath kept draining water, shower stopped flowing and our plug in basin no longer popped up….. Team friendly and helpful
