Stayed at this hotel over Xmas period whilst visiting family in Bristol. The hotel is in a good location and with easy access to everything Bristol has to offer. Parking facilities at hotel were also a bonus. Stay was only impacted by the temperature in our room on first night. Aircon not working properly so room (#135) very cold. We did try to contact both the WhatsApp line and phoned reception but no answer on either platform. We therefore waited until the morning to follow up on the room temperature topic. I firstly spoke to a room cleaner who quickly arranged for a maintenance colleague to look at the Aircon controller. He stated it was not set up correctly and after reseting this, left us but the room did still not warm up. We then raised it at the main reception where the the staff were understanding and subsequently offered us either a room heater or another room (116) which we decided to take the option of. Our stay from this point forward (and new room 116 conditions) were good and certainly gave us a better end to our x2 night stay. It was just the room temperature topic that made it not a “great” stay.

Stayed for 3 nights. Happy with rooms and good we could bring our pet. Breakfast on day 1 not so good, but subsequent were good. Might be worth upgrading showers to more powerful ones and adding some additional sound proofing as appeared a little noisy at times from other guests.

Novotel Bristol Centre is a ten-minute, flat, luggage-friendly walk from Temple Meads, which immediately earns trust from anyone who has ever been misled by a hotel map. This stay was a reminder of why I often seek out Novotel first. You are not promised theatre, just calm, competence, and comfort. When all three show up consistently, it feels quietly luxurious. The room was properly dark at night, the bed did exactly what a bed should do, and the shower arrived fully committed. There were sockets where you actually need them, which should not be notable, but still is. A welcome drink on arrival, courtesy of Silver status, was a small but civilised touch that instantly put the hotel on my side. The gym, sauna, and steam room are compact rather than sprawling, but they are clean, functional, and genuinely welcome after a long train journey and a day built around walking and eating. Size matters less than intent, and the intent here is excellent. This hotel understands its role. It is not trying to be the destination. It supports the journey, helps you reset, and sends you back out into the city in better shape than when you arrived. As someone who writes at www.thehungrypassenger.com about travelling by train, eating locally, and moving through places at a human pace, this is exactly the kind of base that makes everything else work. No drama. No nonsense. No regrets. 9/10. I would stay again without hesitation, and probably will.
