Tilburg

Tilburg is a beautiful city (one of the greenest in the Netherlands!) and a perfect place for a European escape. Explore attractive, leafy streets or discover cultural attractions when visiting year-round.

How to get to Tilburg from Eindhoven Airport

Eindhoven Airport is the closest to Tilburg, just over 30 kilometres from the city. You can get there by car in around 30 minutes. Hop in a taxi outside the airport or hire a car for your time in the Netherlands; plenty of hotels in Tilburg have parking. If you hire a car, enjoy exploring the region and all it offers. Some attractions are difficult to reach by public transport, while neighbouring cities, towns and villages make lovely days out. You might prefer to save a little money and ride the bus from Eindhoven Airport to Tilburg. Busses run regularly and cost just a couple of euros, a convenient option for a budget weekend in the Netherlands.

The city's story

Tilburg is in the south Netherlands, set on the Wilhelmina Canal. It started as a small village, developing into one of the most significant industrial cities in the region in the 1800s. Industrial Tilburg is famous for having specialised in textiles manufacturing. You can learn about its history at the Tilburg Textile Museum.

Old Tilburg Castle

Unlike other cities in the province, Tilburg doesn't have a historical centre. There was once a Castle of Tilburg, but keen historians won't find it anywhere today. What happened to Tilburg Castle? It was removed in the 20 th century during the industrial boom to make space for more factories and industrial buildings. A wool washing and sheep leather factory was built in its place. Today, houses and a park (Stenen Kamerpark) occupy the area where Tilburg Castle once stood. Some foundations can be seen in Stenen Kamerpark, worth a visit to connect with the city's past.
