The hotel was literally across the road from the main station and we arrived by train. It was in a building that may have been a residential villa. As a result, it felt a lot less corporate but with all the expected modernity. We were given a lovely quiet room overlooking gardens. Our stay felt like a treat but the price was reasonable. We liked it a lot. Really liked the filtered water refills and glass flagon. Bar area was chilled and stylish for Sunday wine. We ate breakfast around the corner in a local backerai.

Mercure Hotel Luebeck City Center is very conveniently located: just a 2 minutes walk from the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof), and a 5 minutes walfing from the Holstentor and the old city, so perfect for a visit. I was at Mercure Hotel Luebeck City Center for three nights, and it was a great stay! My room was big, with a comfortable bed. It was very quiet, and the insulation from outside noise was very good. Everything worked perfect. Free wi-fi was very good. The bathroom was also very good, even if smallish. Breakfast was excellent, and staff were helpful. A truly great stay!

Very disappointing reception, it seemed that the young man just couldn’t be bothered. The quiet room we had requested, and which he confirmed we had been given, turned out to be facing the main road and not the inner courtyard as he had told us. The wifi in the room didn’t work. The said receptionist showed little interest, took my phone and connected it in the usual way with the words ‘it’s working now”, ignoring the fact that it was clearly not working in our room. There was a dried up silverfish (?) stuck to the bedlinen which the friendly night porter eventually changed. Parking was not available. We were a told to find a space in the nearby multi-storey carpark. We did. It cost €20 per night.

Your request for a quiet room was noted and communicated as “subject to availability.” Unfortunately, at the time of your arrival, no courtyard-facing rooms were available anymore, so we were unable to fulfill this request. The same applies to our parking spaces. We do not reserve parking in advance, and spaces are only available subject to availability. This was also communicated accordingly prior to arrival. Friendly and efficient welcome. Fortunate to be upgraded to a Privilege Room, good size and amenities. Pillows could have been softer to my taste. Grateful that despite using the “no clean” option being the complimentary items in the room were replenished daily. Hotel is less than five minutes from the railway station with connections to Hamburg and close to the city centre.

The receptionist didn't speak English well. He didn't know that there is a parking right in front of the hotel to send me there, so, instead, he recommended ones that were either closed or far and full as I went there without finding a single spot. I found this parking by myself. Also, I became a member to get a better price for the room but none of the things that are supposed to be offered to members, happened, like welcoming drink (not that I wanted it but still I must say that).
