Overall, this was a good stay. The room was comfortable and the facilities were nice. However, on the last day the house cleaner came in quite abruptly with no knocking which was startling and uncomfortable. The pool was also nice although there were no lanes for proper swimming and some guests didn’t take consideration of those swimming properly even when keeping to one side of the pool. Aside from this, the stay was pleasant.

I stayed at Novotel and feel there are several areas that clearly need improvement, especially for a hotel positioned at a higher standard. Location wise, walking from the hotel to the nearest subway takes about 10 to 15 minutes and involves many steps, which is inconvenient and tiring, particularly if you have luggage, are elderly, or are travelling with children. Taking a taxi is not much better, as the drop off point is confusing because Novotel shares the same lobby with Ibis, and there is no clear signage or guidance, which first time guests will definitely feel lost as the taxi app states more than 1 pickup. WiFi not stable, can be no wifi at times. The hotel executive lounge is very underwhelming, offering only three types of cookies along with hot beverages and some juices, which feels extremely limited and does not match expectations for what is marketed as a five star experience. The room itself is clean and acceptable, but nothing stands out, and the hair dryer provided is a very basic model that you would normally find in an average hotel. The biggest disappointment is the breakfast experience. I arrived around 9.20am and was already faced with a long queue and a very chaotic scene. Even though there were empty tables inside, guests were not allowed to enter, and the table clearing process was very slow. Some guests left with many dirty plates still on their tables, and no staff came to clear them for a long time, which is especially obvious if you are seated at the far end of the dining area. Although queue tickets are issued, there is no number display system, so everything is handled manually, causing confusion and leading many guests to stand around waiting. Most staff have very limited English, and some do not understand at all, which leads to frequent misunderstandings and makes it hard to communicate even simple requests. On top of that, a few staff showed impatient facial expressions, which made the experience feel unwelcoming. Breakfast officially ends at 10am, but if your turn comes close to that time and you enter slightly after 10am, staff will quickly approach to remind you that last serving is at 10.20am. The most unacceptable part is that food is not refilled during this period, so guests are left with whatever leftovers remain, including juices that are not topped up at all. Even before 10.20am, staff already start clearing and packing up, and by around 10.40am the food stations are completely empty. The egg station is particularly disappointing, as the chef mixes all the vegetables together in advance and expects guests to eat everything as prepared instead of allowing any choice. When I explained that some people have allergies, such as to onions, the chef did not understand or simply ignored the request for convenience, leaving guests to remove the ingredients themselves. There is also no warmer in the breakfast area, so if the weather is cold, the dining experience becomes uncomfortable, and guests should be prepared to wear extra layers. Overall, this stay did not meet expectations in terms of service quality, organisation, communication, and breakfast standards, and I believe potential guests should be aware of these issues so they can decide for themselves if this hotel suits their needs.
