A lovely clean hotel that met all our needs.

Breakfast buffet was cold or at best tepid. Bathroom dated- a plastic shower curtain for a shower over the bath should have no place in a 4 star hotel. As aperson with compromised eyesight I found it very difficult- the hotel has too much dark and black aspects with very poor lighting

I stayed on both Mercure and Dai-Chi Hotel which are neighbors and I find Mercure more pleasant and modern but the breakfast is slow and chaotic. Daichi offers 2 levels for their breakfast on the 2nd floor and basement which are well manned at the same price. Unfortunately, the quality of the breakfast in Mercure fails in comparison with Dai-Chi. The room although small with Mercure is a lot better. There are bell service in Dai-Chi and not in Mercure. We were happy that we were given the higher room but not much benefit since the view of the city is likewise covered by the subway/train.

To be fair, this was the first of 3 hotels we used in Japan on our recent trip and in this context it was not too bad. However, compared to similar hotels around the world, I would not rate it as any more than a 7. The location was convenient in so far as it was close to a train station, but while it may be good for the business traveller, it’s not a good place for a holiday. The room was very small and dark, but surprisingly quiet given the proximity to trains. The breakfast was not great in terms of range and the approach to ordering a main from a menu rather than accessing the buffet slowed everything down to a crawl. Space was again an issue, hardly enough room to access the buffet. Would we go back? Probably not at that price point and location. Staff were polite and helpful.
