Sofitel Cotonou Marina Hotel & Spa 5 stars

The hotel was definitely 5 Star. Fantastic facilities, very luxurious with beautiful finishings and extremely well maintained. Unfortunately what let down the overall experience was the poor customer service from staff generally and we also expected the food to be of a better quality given the high prices we paid. If these issues can be looked into, it would definitely be a world class hotel.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Sofitel, and it exceeded my expectations from start to finish. Even before our arrival, my partner was in constant communication with Mirelle and her team to ensure everything was arranged for a seamless experience. Their attention to detail, responsiveness, and genuine care made us feel valued long before we checked in. Throughout our stay, the hospitality was exceptional. Every member of the team was warm, professional, and committed to making our experience memorable. One of my favorite parts was the nightly turndown service, it was such a thoughtful touch and something I looked forward to each evening. The little treats, whether cookies or nuts and the tea, added an extra layer of comfort and luxury that made the experience feel even more special. We also spent a significant amount of time at Club Millésime and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The lounge was elegant, comfortable, and a wonderful place to relax throughout the day. The food and beverage offerings were excellent, and the team provided attentive service throughout our visits. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to include a wider variety of healthier snack options. While there was an impressive selection of pastries and desserts, I would have loved to see more fresh fruits, nuts, vegetables with dips, and other light savoury options available alongside the sweet offerings. The hotel itself was beautiful, pool was warm and clean, Sauna was great, the service was impeccable, and the overall atmosphere was both relaxing and luxurious. Once again, huge thank you to Mirelle (Senior Guest Relations) and her entire team for their outstanding hospitality and for creating such a memorable experience for us. I will definitely be visiting again and would highly recommend Sofitel to anyone looking for exceptional service and a truly enjoyable stay.

Food was nice, stuff was helpful everything on the spot. Just had bad experience during booking. When my flight was rescheduled I wrote un email asking to change dates of my stay I was waiting for reply almost one month and in result of this communication I hade to stay one night at different hotel

The hotel is exceptional in many respects, with a beautiful ambience, excellent food, and impressive amenities. Unfortunately, an incident involving my Muslim friend, who was also staying at the hotel, significantly overshadowed what would otherwise have been a wonderful experience. One morning, we went to use the swimming pool, and shortly after entering, a member of staff approached us and asked my friend to leave because her modest Muslim swimwear was allegedly not permitted under hotel policy. The staff member repeatedly insisted that he was acting under management instructions. We explained that her attire was appropriate swimwear and that, as frequent international travellers, we had never encountered such an issue anywhere else in the world. Despite this, he refused to reconsider and insisted that we leave the pool area. Naturally, we found the situation deeply upsetting and later raised the matter with both the hotel manager and the customer services lead. The staff member was called in to apologise, but the apology felt dismissive and insincere. Management assured us that they would send complimentary treats to our room as a gesture of goodwill; however, before our departure the following day, nothing was received aside from a brief written apology. What was most disappointing was the apparent lack of genuine remorse or meaningful action regarding what we perceived to be discriminatory treatment. My friend felt embarrassed and humiliated by the experience, and neither of us felt the matter was handled with the seriousness and sensitivity it deserved. Given the hotel’s five-star status and its likely exposure to international guests from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, I was genuinely surprised that such an incident could occur. It was both disappointing and unacceptable for a hotel of this standard, and it unfortunately left me feeling disenchanted despite the property’s otherwise excellent qualities.
