Dirty and run down

It was a late night checkin. Very friendly guy waiting for us. Checked in within minutes. Unfortunately that’s where the positive experience ended. The hallways had very stained carpets and what seemed like some budget office lighting and false ceilings that hadn’t been changed in decades. The bathroom was dirty. The shower had some black mould around some opening. The room also featured the same stains on the carpet. The mugs in the room had stains on them. Clearly had not been cleaned. The extra pillows had blood stains on them and smelt like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. Slightly expected for an older hotel but no air con or bed side plugs.

The staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. It was good to have access to the coffee/tea/hot chocolate machine in the dining area and there was plenty of choice for breakfast.

First impression... dark unwelcome reception Staff sat looking at screens no immediate welcome to the hotel Corridors very smelly Room very very tired and desperate for a full refurbishment Breakfast not fresh I have stayed here over the years as it is convenient for me .. but am afraid I will not be staying here again as I refuse to pay for such a grim experience

Ideal location. 5 minute walk from town center. Nice welcome, friendly and warm. Just one issue had left a small Tupperware container with coffee granules in on the side near the brew facilities.(there is too little coffee in just one of the sachets supplied but too much in two so add a little of my own). When the room was being serviced this tub disappeared. I had been using the tub for over 20 years with no issues previously so was rather disappointed to lose it. Apart from this minor issue a really enjoyable two night stay. Thank you
