Well located resort with good sized apartments with views

Was staying to attend a birthday celebration and Breakfree resort had a very reasonable price for the 3 bedroom apartment I booked. Service was exceptional with reception staff bring extremely helpful and friendly. They even blew up the birthday balloons and put them in the apartment. Our group were very impressed. The ocean view apartment was upgraded to one with a rooftop spa which we loved and used a lot even though the weather wasn't kind until the Sunday we were checking out. Luckily we were kindly offered a late check-out giving us the chance to use it and the resort pool that was newly renovated although not completely finished. When it is it will be a fantastic area and it has great view also. Resort also has a gym which one of my group used. The apartment has 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms, full kitchen and laundry. Good sized dining table however it was a little uncomfortable to sit for any length of time. The lounge had good sized TV with foxtel which made the boys happy as they could watch footy but the lounge chairs were only 2 x 2 seaters meaning the 6 people couldn't all sit on lounges which we thought a bit strange. The location was excellent with plenty of cafes and restaurants in main street There was even markets on Sunday on the street out front. The reception staff offered some recommendations which we appreciated and were spot on. The resort is great value for money and would be a perfect location for families and groups wanting a ocean side holiday with plenty of activities close by

Disappointing

We booked online through ACCOR website as Members and saw a photo of the room (in the Tower) that we booked. When we arrived we were told that we were allocated a room in the Resort instead. (Reason given: No availability in the Tower, lots of owners in residence). We went to Room 17 in the Resort. Room 18 was undergoing renovations - tradies on site, slamming doors, power tools, hammering, music. Then painters appeared in the hallways - stepping over drop sheets and paint pots, stairwell had drop sheets also. Strong paint smell in the room as a result of painting. It was like residing on a worksite not a holiday destination. Also bumped a painted wall and had paint on my arm, shirt and shorts. Complained to Manager and was then offered another room in the Tower along with a 15% discount on the time in Room 17. He was polite and helpful. Swapping the room that we booked in the Tower with a Resort room is akin to the "bait and switch" tactic used by unscrupulous operators. Room 93 in the Tower was better and more quiet. In all it was a very ordinary experience.
