We booked this stay as locals hoping for a relaxing weekend away to wind down. While the property itself has some very nice outdoor features, the overall experience was unfortunately overshadowed by a series of disappointing service and room issues that we did not expect, especially given the reputation of this hotel. Starting with check-in and service, the front desk experience was largely unwelcoming. With the exception of Naomi and the night manager on Sunday (whose name I unfortunately did not catch), most of the team appeared disinterested in assisting and made us feel rushed, as though we were an inconvenience rather than paying guests. The difference in attitude between these two helpful staff members and the rest of the team was extremely noticeable. As a Platinum member, the lack of loyalty recognition was particularly disappointing. The so-called welcome amenity, a bottle of wine, was simply placed on top of the bar fridge with no card, no explanation, and no acknowledgment at all. This left us unsure whether it was complimentary or part of the minibar, prompting me to walk back to reception to confirm, just to avoid any unexpected charges. This small detail could have been handled so much better and would have made a big difference to the first impression. Another major failure was the lack of communication regarding noise. While we understand it is a busy season and that events happen, it would have been basic courtesy to inform us at check-in that a party would be held directly outside our room. Instead, we experienced hours of loud music until 10pm, followed by guests speaking loudly until around 10:30pm. While nothing could be done once it was happening, a simple heads-up would have allowed us to adjust our expectations or request a different room in advance. The most serious and distressing issue, however, was the ant infestation in our room. During the day there were no visible ants, and in the early evening on our first night we only noticed a few. However, after 8pm they started to emerge in large numbers. At around 3am, half asleep, I went to the bathroom and while sitting on the toilet suddenly felt intense tingling on my skin. Looking down, I saw numerous ants crawling on and around the toilet and nearby surfaces. While ants normally would not scare me, encountering this in the middle of the night in a hotel room was extremely distressing and genuinely traumatic. When we reported this issue, the response was deeply disappointing. We were told that having ants in the room is “normal,” and there was very little apology. We moved into another room for our second night, hoping the issue would be resolved, only to experience the exact same problem again as dusk set in. At 11pm, we were asked if we wanted to change rooms once more, which we declined purely because of how late it was. No further solution, compensation, or meaningful follow-up was offered. The only reason I am giving this stay two stars instead of one is because the outdoor environment of the property is genuinely lovely. The pool, activity hub, and surrounding walking areas were enjoyable and well-maintained. Unfortunately, the poor service, lack of communication, and unacceptable room conditions outweighed the positives and made this a stay we would not choose to repeat.
