Comfortable and welcoming, but a few snags

Booking was easy. The hotel is conveniently located for rail travellers from the south – a short walk from Glasgow Central Station. Checking in was friendly, informal and quick. The two lifts were efficient. My room (607 on the 6th floor – photos) was spacious and quiet, with a comfortable bed, a wide window, a big TV screen, facilities for making tea and coffee, good lighting, plenty of power points and a well-equipped bathroom (photos). Lacking in my opinion were a) adequate storage space for the guests’ possessions; and b) a surface suitable for placing and using a laptop computer. The chair and bedside table were not suitable for that. The control for the air-conditioning (photo) took time to master; the lack of instructions contrasted with the containers for shampoo and soap, which were amusingly labelled (photo). The shower door was not properly fitted and was consequently difficult to open. In one of the photos, the bathroom door is held open by the footstool; this was because the door had a very efficient self-closing mechanism, which prevented the guest from listening to radio/television while in the bathroom. The cleaning staff were discreet and efficient. The decoration (names of pop groups of yesteryear) in my bathroom (photo) was a harbinger of the breakfast experience. The buffet was extremely varied, with a changing range of local items, such as haggis, black pudding and potato scones (no champit neeps [mashed turnips] during my three-night stay). Many customers had to make several visits to the buffet, because no trays were provided. For me, the unending stream of music of the pop groups of yesteryear became very irritating. It might help to know that the writer of this is an 82-year-old Englishman who studied at Glasgow University.

My 3rd stop in this hotel, I am an Accor member and favour the hotel chain from my travels to Europe and Glasgow due to price Located close to the city centre, I arrived by bus from the airport - the stop is around the corner for arrival and just across the road for returning to the airport. It is also a few minutes from the train station if you arrive by train! The room was a Queen room this trip, it was clean, in good decoration and ideal for my 2 night stay. Breakfast is always good here, with a very good choice accommodating various tastes. If you wish to eat in the hotel during the evening, they do have a nice little menu that finishes at 9pm - this is good for your first night if you arrive later and just want a bite to eat without walking into Glasgow (although it is only 5-10 minutes away). The staff are always pleasant, especially in the morning when they are pro-active in clearing tables for more diners. It is nice to see, as sometimes you can end up sitting on a dirty table as the staff are busy in many other hotels.
