It was pleasant ... our upgrade to a king room was over a service entrance which was a bit disappointing with the many deliveries. We did appreciate the room gift (dessert) for our wedding anniversary

We are pleased to know the visit was enjoyable overall, and that the in room dessert amenity was appreciated. We do, however, extend our apologies for the room location and the noise you experienced. While an upgrade is meant to enhance the stay, being positioned above a service entrance with frequent deliveries is understandably disappointing, and the sound insulation from the hallway should provide a more restful environment. Your comments will be shared with the appropriate teams to help prevent similar situations and to reinforce our room assignment approach when celebrating special occasions. We also regret the challenges you faced when trying to secure the winter package rate through central reservations, as well as the WiFi performance during your stay. When planning a quick birthday weekend adventure, I had planned on staying at The Queen Elizabeth and Le Château Laurier then returning home to Toronto. However, one of the reservation agent alerted me to Le Château Montebello and its relative proximity to Ottawa BUT that it is the world’s largest log cabin! Given how I tend to be, according to many as they breath a sign of relief, rather “one of a kind” so this discovery seemed the like the perfect place to celebrate my birthday and wrap the weekend and it definitely was the right decision. The experience was incredibly memorable made possible in part by the actions and attention to detail made by the Fairmont team…including Vic (whom my two pups were ecstatic to say hi to). Fairmont is nothing if not consistent in the level of service provided to guests regardless of property - which is why whether through work or for my own time, Fairmont is where I prefer to stay when traveling.

I have been to Montebello many times over the course of my entire life. I have many memories and expectations based on past experiences. This last time, was the first time in roughly 9 years, and I was delighted that not too much has changed. We visited during March break, and early in the week (Monday) What I liked: - The hotel is very well kept. Old time charm, without the old-time smell. Details in the decor, the famous fire hearth, games area and pool. All was exactly how I remember - but noticeably in great condition, and working order. - The Staff were all exceptional. Very polite, welcoming, prompt. Not over-bearing. Everyone! - The activities for march break were out of this world! and to have access to equipment was so wonderful. We would return just for this! We tried Curling, Skiing, Tubing, Skating, Pool (although the kids complained about skin irritation after swimming - which lasted 2 days) - The beds were very cozy. The room got very hot during the night. The coffee maker didn't work.. but loved that they supplied robes and slippers. - Variety at brunch was great, and cost was affordable/value (although coffee not hot) What I did not like: - We unfortunately had a horrible dinner.. so much so that our meal was comp-ted. Issues with the food... Onion soup was all cheese, no bread. Caesar salad looked liked lettuce shavings.. very small portion. Mushroom risotto was porridge, very small portion and raw mushrooms (cold when served). Kids chicken fingers served RAW. Overall, we suspect it was an off-night for the kitchen, however, the prices here absolutely did not reflect the value served. And the portions were less than desirable (we are limited to the one open restaurant so filling our belly was somewhat of a necessity). Someone at our table had to order room service afterwards, as this was the only way to get food at such a late hour (also, it took over 50 minutes to get our food after sitting down). Apart from the kitchen slip-ups, and the raw chicken (which was ultimately what tipped our experience over the edge) - I would like to point out that prices per plate were very high, that we expected the value to be represented in the plate. The flavors were simply not enough to justify the small portions, the plate descriptions were not delivered as described, and again since there was no where else to get food.. this was very upsetting. Secondly, we were with older kids (12 years). They are too big for kids buffet and too young for adult plates. I would recommend adding an option or something in-between. A cold/snack bar with sandwiches for after hours would also be nice. With that said, the manager was very apologetic and professional.

We understand how frustrating this was, especially when options were limited and the wait time further affected the evening. Your comments regarding portion sizes, value, and the need for better suited choices for guests in the “in between” age range are also important, as is your suggestion for a late evening cold option. These points will be shared with our culinary and restaurant leadership for review. We also note your observations regarding room comfort, including the temperature overnight and the coffee maker, as well as your comment about brunch coffee temperature. Regarding the pool, we appreciate you mentioning the children’s skin irritation, and this will be communicated to the team to review water quality monitoring and guest comfort. This is an hotel that you cna go just to be there. All the activities are there you can have so much fun without getting out of the hotel grounds.
