Lovely Propert in a fantastic location. The staff were wonderful. They entire stay was what I expected except the food. I found the food extremely overpriced for the quality and selection. Nearly $40 for slices of flank steak and French fries . I expected more from the Chateau.

We had a great stay at the Fairmont despite the growing concerns about covid-19. The staff was friendly and handled everything very well and made sure guests felt safe and well looked after. The room was spacious (even more so than the one from our last stay) which added so much to our weekend away. The gold service was excellent as per our last stay. Thanks to the staff for keeping everything running smooth.

Upon check in, I asked for a view facing away from the courtyard view. I was given a partial view, but lost my king bed. Oh well! It was still nice, although you could tell it was time for some upgrades in the room. The hotel is beautiful in design, and clean. A covered, private smoking area would be a nice addition.

On check-in the staff was very rude. She made a point to discuss my and my co-workers rooms solely in French, when I am solely unilingual. We booked in October (separate rooms), and asked for king beds and to be near each other. (my colleague is 7 months pregnant). Someone else attending the same conference as us who booked in January got a large upgrade. I had a hard-as-a-board queen bed. The pull down blinds were blackout, but the very bright streetlights kept me up all night, I had to buy a sleep mask. I will say though, the hotel is absolutely beautiful. I just wish the staff weren't so pretentious.

My hotel room was very nice, with lovely quality furniture. I appreciated the complementary bath robe, as I forgotten mine. I also appreciated having a quality hairdryer, and not one that overheated and tried to fry my hair. Staff were always extremely polite. They are always impeccably groomed, which seems a wonder to me. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

experience was as expected, waited a few hours for my room to be ready, ended up having to keep my window open throughout my whole stay as the room was way to hot and the thermostat was not allowing the room to cool. A 24 hour noise policy should be posted somewhere online or in the hotel. Four of us were eating dinner in one room and we had a noise complaint at 8:55pm. The employee waited outside our door for 4 minutes and proceeded to give us a second warning. We were not loud and could hear others when standing in the hallway. We were advised to leave our room and finish dinner by the lobby. If not for a work trip, I would not return.

Would not give even partial refund even though city shut down because of COVID

I was extremely dissatisfied that given the Premier said not to do any unnecessary travel and the City of Ottawa shut the recreational facilities etc. That the manager would not approve anything more than a 90 day credit. Would not even consider a partial refund, or a credit for a reasonable period of time. In light of COVID there is no likelihood I would be able to use the stay. I enjoyed my last stay but would definitely not recommend the Fairmont Chateau Laurier again.

This is 2020. I can't believe any hotel is still charging for wi-fi. Wi-fi is free at city hall and at Tim Hortons for heaven's sake! Being asked to pay for wi-fi really cheapens the image of Fairmont.

Our experience with all staff was great; valet was prompt, front desk changed our room when what we received did not match what we had booked, and room service was very friendly - all staff were always smiling too! Our room was clean with amply toiletries. We did however find it on the smaller side. Bathroom was also clean however also on the smaller side. And the air in the hotel seemed a little stale - we were able to open our window however. The hotel is perfectly located to take a stroll around the Byward Market, a skate on the rink at City Hal, a little jaunt to Elgin St., next to the Parliament Buildings and the Rideau Canal. Overall would recommend.

My husband and I booked the Chateau Laurier for a weekend getaway to Ottawa to see a concert. I booked several months in advance, and when I tried to call to secure a government rate, I was not pleased with my experience at all. I did not have a more positive experience once we arrived for the stay, finding the staff somewhat aloof, bordering on rude. Our early check in was not ready when we arrived, and we were told we could have an upgrade for $80 more a night, which would get us in right away. While the building is, of course, gorgeous, I found it old and in need of upgrades in a way I didn't expect, including an elevator that is notoriously unreliable. Overall, I do not feel we got what we paid for and I will likely book elsewhere if the same opportunity arises.
