Fairmont Château Laurier. Not cheap, but worth it!

My wife and I stayed at the famous Fairmont Château Laurier this past week-end. Here is a quick review. Beautiful, classic hotel in the heart of Ottawa. Great lobby with the CN Rail Castle Express, a model train display by CN Rail. Beautiful decor, with many paintings and classic, antique furniture. Very clean. We didn't eat there, but have no doubt the food would have been excellent. Great bar (Zoey's). Great location, walking distance from Parliament Hill. We stayed in a room with a comfortable King-sized bed ($400 Cdn), no complaints. Clean, modern bathroom, but no tooth paste (bring your own). Not cheap, especially if you drink the beverages in the mini-fridge (bring your own) but it's really worth staying there at least once in your life.

What a charming hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. We found the hotel to be a bit on the cold side though. We enjoyed Zoe's restaurant although the service was little slow. We appreciated getting a table although the restaurant was quite busy. We expected there to be more bars and restaurants to choose from within the hotel. It was good we were able to eat on site though. Staff were friendly and welcoming, in particular the waitress at lunch on Wednesday (Black, with long dark/blond hair). Nothing was too much trouble. Really enjoyed the room but would have liked a fridge for my own salad and vegetable juice to keep them cool. Lovely slippers and robes. View from our room was lovely - towards the museum of art.

Good Day, My wife and I recently checked in to the Fairmont last Friday. It took 49 minutes to get into the entrance for valet parking. When we finally checked onto the Gold floor, 30 more minutes to get luggage. Once changed and ready to meet guests we invited to the hotel for drinks/dinner to our dismay no seating was available at any hotel venue. To our embarrassment we redressed for the weather and had to set out to find other arrangements. The following morning at the Gold desk we again tried to make a reservation at Zoe's to no avail. We cancelled the Saturday night and checked into a Marriott/Bonvoy. The Chateau Laurier had absolutely nothing to offer but an overcrowded Lobby and a very unimaginative display of corporately sponsored Christmas Trees that all look the same. Not to mention your attempt at the 1912 Bar with its faux brick fireplace with pieces missing and brick wall paper in the hall. Try to make some effort. I have been with Fairmont for many years and have stayed at the Chateau Frontenac, Jasper Park Lodge and others on multiple occasions. On what started out to by a romantic getaway quickly turned into a most disappointing experience. Graeme A.
